Icon3 NEED HELP EBAY D16 TURBO KIT

hey everyone
my friend has an 97 honda civic ex that he want to turbo
its gonna be a daily driven turbo honda nothing cool
so what your best bet or any suggestion
please no chip ecu or whatever
that include apexi hack or obd whatever crap
it pose to be an small budget
i am not from usa or i know dam California rules about illegal mods or whatever
what can you expect when i am from aussie haha
nothing illegal in the small island of kangaroo, plus what is smog?!?!?!?!!?
but yeah lets get to the point since i am here for a visit
(visiting my family since i miss them, and whoever still my friends haha)
and i saw my friend beat down honda with an basic cold air intake and cat back(what is CARB?!?!?!?!!?)
i thought of getting him a turbo kit, like an ebay t3/t4 turbo kit with an 3inch down pipe with test pipe and 3 inch turbo back and also just an fmu and 255lph intake fuel pump
i know a lot of people talk a lot of smack about these kits
and yeah if its my car i would gone name brand.but not my car and i dont care, just want to leave an impression to all those hater who talk smack about his honda haha
the car is just going to go from point a to point b
not looking for an extreme krazy car that lose traction everyday or whatever
but more of a daily driven car and mpg i dont really care about that

what i want to ask from all you honda lover is what is the best FMU setup and fuel pump should i get an inline too or the intake should be ok

so you want to buy a low quality turbo kit, not tune it, and be quick? go old school and get an fmu, bigger injectors and a decent fuel pump...i've seen plenty of ebay turbos have a good lifetime if they're kept under 10psi, the seals tend to go bad with with higher pressure...get a decent wideband a/f setup to keep an eye on things...

Get a Walbro 255hp intank fuel pump, Vortech 12:1 FMU, and a missing link for the map sensor. Ebay kits are cheap but some people run them with no issues at all. I am running all the parts listed above on my daily driver. Its an automatic 99 civic ex(d16y8), Speed Factory turbo kit with a Precision sc34 .48 a/r. In the process of doing a 5-speed conversion but in the mean time I will be running the fmu and missing link. I don't recommend running the fmu setup on more then 200whp. I am at about 250-260whp. Pulls hard for what it is. Can take mustang gt's, 350z's, camaros, etc. Def. a fun daily with the stock automatic tranny. lol. A lot of people say they auto tranny cant take the power but I haven't had any problems yet...knock on wood!

I don't understand why you would spend $600 on a cheap turbo kit to maintain a small budget but then spend $600 on a completely unnecessary tuning solution.

because my friend want a turbo kit for now to drive on to see if he want to get a better name brand setuo
so for now i am just preparing him for stuff right now
i know ebay turbo kits are gay but at least its something he can test on for cheap you know
so whatever he like whatever he like for now
right now he only has $2000 save for a name brand turbo but he never had turbo before in his car so he like **** i dont want to buy it and regret it feeling in his head
so that why i am asking for your suggestion what is good for a daily driven car with turbo setup for now until he go for more work into it
he dont know how turbo kick and feel so he want to see with his own eyes with a cheap ebay setup=D

The only thing he's gonna regret is wasting 600 of that 2000 on a shitty turbo kit. He should keep saving and buy parts as he can. For 2000, he can buy atleast a decent turbo and manifold. Depending how big and what brand, he could also buy a wastegate or BOV and maybe even an intercooler and all the piping.

Hey dude. I hear ebay kits suck *** according to my research for the past month. Was looking for one for my teg. Just read this article. You can read it and come to your own conclusion. I am going with good parts as i am building my engine. I heard stuff like turbine blades breaking off and damaging engines.

Here's the article

check out www.phearable.net
talk to john he will school you up for free regardless if you buy any thing ..........

this isnt the 90's any more theres no reason to run an fmu or afc.....
you can get a chipped and socked ecu for cheaper then having to deal with the heart ache of a dealing with ANY piggy back out there.

im not even trying to bash you at all but just search man that why people thing this whole thread is fake.

return the aem ems and buy what ever your tuner is comfortable with using you can get a basemap/ ecu for a tenth of the price of the aem unit please read though the FAQ a little you will thank your self later.

sounds like you need to save your money a little longer before you jump into a money pit car. Do some research on setups and builds that work. Create your part list with decent parts and start buying them one at a time.
Then save up a good 800$ for a ecu and tune. I used neptune with the demon board came out to 400$ plus 150$ for a chipped ecu. Then the dyno tune came out to 300$

A lot of people make the mistake of blowing up their motor because of cheap turbo kit with a cheap way to tune just to save some money and end up without a car.

i'm still trying to figure out why I read this full thing when i felt a facepalm coming on every comment I read. wh would you jump from crap like an fmu and missing link to a way over necessary aem ems, buy an obd 1 ecu get it tuned on something like crome and have no worries and money in his/your pocket.
Also the main reason he will have that feeling of regret won't be because he spent too much on a decent/good setup for 2000, but regret he decided to get a crappy ebay kit instead of something that he knows will fit. Also the stats on that turbo setup sound like they'd be a poor match to any honda engine
