Default ECU info Needed! - P3D ecu

Hi everyone...
So after much trouble with the local honda dealers, we figured out that my 1996 Honda Accord EX (JDM) Right hand drive , CD4 chassis, F20B2, Auto-trans..

has the P3D ecu.. OBDI

I have never heard of it and assume it to be some sort of Japanese model

I am trying to get my vehicle set up for tuning before I throw in my Bisimoto cam, so do you all think that this ECU is chippable, or will I have to look into either swapping the ecu or running some sort of piggyback (Apexi SAFC II maybe)

I have fairly simple tuning needs seeing as its automatic and is non-vtec.. Therefore I just basically need something to manage A/F ratios and maps etc...

I have exhausted my list of people to talk to for advice here in Trinidad... Even the honda stealership cant help me with some ECU info...

Thanks in advance

That ECU is not one of the supported OBD1 ECUs for chipping. I suggest getting a chipped P06 vs going for a piggyback or hack. Even though you only have simple tuning needs, a chipped ECU would be better in the long run.

I may be a bit biased in that I chip ECUs but I still feel for the money they are the better option. Unless you do not have access to a tuner. In that case you may want to look into a tuning package from one of the tuning companies. eCtune or Neptune both sell quality packages. Xenocron.com also has complete DIY tuner packages. they come with all of the necessary hardware (wideband o2) and software for approx $580. You may be able to find the parts cheaper used or on ebay/kijiji?????

The AFC NEO is $450 and doesn't give you half as much tuning ability as a chipped OBD1 ECU with a wideband & tuning software.

P06 wont control the accord auto tranny, even if you use an automatic P06.

OP I think this is a sign that a manual swap is in your future... haha!

Might as well since you keep adding performance stuff.

Well, I actually plan on doing a manual swap in the foreseeable future, but those manual transmissions cost quite a lot down here in the Caribbean... So in the meantime I figure I will keep the automatic going until it eventually craps out, thereby forcing me to swap.

My main worry about swapping ECU is that I won't retain automatic control.. Does anyone know of a potential ECU swap that will keep my car functional in its current state?
If a ECU swap and tune is not doable, I can pick up an APEXi SAFC II or VAFC II used from the guys on TampaRacing for about $100-$150. Not a bad price really, but really not my first choice as I appreciate the options given by chipping..

As far as I know you are basically messed on using "proper" tuning with an automatic.

I personally would just wait until you could get the manual before doing anything. I can't imagine you will enjoy the potential increased performance from the cam, etc. with an auto very much anyway. Seems like you are just taking a risk by trying to get this going so soon.
