This is normal smoke as hitting vtec causes you to burn oil. Hence the black smoke.

umm what?

correct me if im wrong but isnt white blue-ish smoke from oil burning. black smoke is from burning too much fuel.

yea it does run rich with 93 octane as its either that or 89 around here, thanks for the tip but wouldent i see it as soon as vtec kicks at 5500, i thought it might be passing by the seals as the revs increased.

is it possible that your vtec solenoid is not activating but the engine is still sending more fuel? just a thought since you think its vtec related.

dosent seem normal, im pretty sure vtec in working as the increase in power seem to be more then just the added fuel. whats really odd is that its black smoke, ive done white and worked with blue but never black.

When you rev an engine really high like that you will get a little black smoke.

some of us have been in the game a long time and have been dealing with the h series for years.

black smoke indicates a rich condition and is completly normal. My stock h did it. Adding bolt ons can make it worse. Once you get a decent tune the black smoke will go away.

Almost all vtec cars burn a little more oil and fuel in vtec

thats what i was figuring, 93 is a lil rich and ive known vtec to burn oil, also read how the valve seals were common. thanks for clearing it up every1.

gonna try running 89 next few fill ups to see if it clears up.

I thought honda clearly states for most dohc vtec's your required to use premium grade fuel. (most common 93)
