Default Bent shaft on new Precision 6765

Brand new Precision pt6765 turbo. It only has a few dyno pulls on it. I tuned the car for low boost at 18 psi. It performed great, making 550+ hp on my fairly simple ls/vtec setup.

I turned the boost up to just a hair above 30psi. I made one pull. The power it made that pull was horrible, and to be honest it made me sick to my stomach. Ive dumped tons of money and hours into this car the last few weeks trying to get it ready for a local event that takes place in a week. So needless to say i wasn't happy with the outcome

Well after this pull i scratched my head, went over a few things. One thing i did was check the turbo for shaft play. There is none. I gave it a spin and it spun freely. After finding nothing wrong i went for another pull. Well boost had been coming in on prior pulls around 5500rpms. While into the throttle on this pull looking at my laptop i reached 6500ish rpms and had 2 psi of boost. When i noticed this i just let out. While the car idled i checked for boost leaks. I found no boost leaks. While looking for leaks i glance at the turbo. It is spinning freely on its own at idle, but something just didn't look right. I shut the car off and had another look at the turbo. The shaft is bent on the compressor side for sure, plain as day. However it has no play and the wheel has not come into contact with the compressor housing. It spins freely as well.

Im lost as to what caused this. I checked oil pressure to the turbo. Its good, and to be honest it probably needs to be restricted just a hair, but i have had no issues with oil making it past the seals. Then again its just been run on the dyno. Ive had no compressor surge issues if its possible that could cause it?

Im pulling the turbo here in few to have a better look, and sending it out to get fixed. What really suck is the hours and money dumped into this car for an event coming up next Saturday and the only thing holding me back is this turbo. Holiday weekend or not, there is no way in hell i will have this thing back in time for next weekend. Is it possible to even get ahold of someone at Precision on the weekends? Im thinking of just buying a new one the first of next week. Quickest fix

You might be surprised about the turnaround. Precision has a pretty good name and I'd think they'll be willing to help you out.

Yep, I would of called them before I even made the post, or emailed someone over there. If we send a turbo out to get rebuilt or to be looked at, we almost get it back just as quick as ordering a new one.

Its the weekend, a holiday weekend at that. They are closed. Ive tried.

The thread is not bashing precision. I have no doubts the issue will be resolved. Its more towards what could have caused this

Seems like a common failure on anything journal bearing they sell. They usually self grenade around 30 psi

they are gonna blame it on you. when my pte sc61 compressor wheel fell off they blame it on oil starvation with the shaft still spinning freely. never got compensated.

This just happened to us. 31psi and the 6765 we had in one of our customers cars we only had about 2 psi. We turned the car on and you can see the wheel spinning with a limp. Were going comp turbo for now this is then second time on this car. Precision said this is the first time they heard about this issue. I knew I was getting the usual bullshit excuse.

Is it because the center of the shaft gets so hot it bends? Break down of properties in shaft?

I've done this with a 18g turbo, but was told it was "overspun" lol.......

imo you will not be happy with the comp it will spool slower and make way less power

My JB 6765 lasted more than 40 passes at 30-41psi plus street time. compressor wheel broke off. Sent it back and they didn't cover the whole thing but they helped me out. Alot more than bullseye did when there turbo broke.

Mine lasted 100 miles. First pass at the track....snap! Precision warrantied the whole thing though. Asked for my backpressure numbers and if I had any side loading on my housings.

As long as I can make more then 4 passes before it goes down I will be happy! Whats the point of going 4 passes and then rebuilding???

Had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM with my 6765 spins fine but no boost.

Sent it back it was covered and shipped back for free great customer service!

I am about to put it back on and see if its good again.

They talked with me about my setup. Its a S2000 with a top mount. I dont how a drain problem could be possible

Spins fine because the shaft sheared off. I bet if you would have check the exhaust wheel while you spin the compressor, they wouldn't have been turning the same speed. I don't know what to expect this second time around.

All these problems with PT's got me terrified.

Should I be crossing my fingers on my 6765 billet JB? Or did they get this fixed on the "newer" models?

or just turn the PTE down the comp will have the same problems
i dont get why some one would even want to try and make 8-900 hp on a 67mm at 40psi buy a fn 72mm and run 25psi make the same power and be happy when you push parts past there limits they will brake
