2010 Acura TL in Targa Newfoundland
The world famous Targa Newfoundland to take place this month has a 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD in it, driven by two Canadian Forces veterans who hope to raise about $150,000 for the charity "Soldier On," a trust established to assist disabled veterans through programmes of fitness and sports.
Although it will not be obvious from the pictures, MCPL Jody Mitic and CPL Andrew Knisley are both disabled and have prosthetic legs. They were both injured in Afghanistan.
Major-General Lewis Mackenzie, a regular participant in Targa Newfoundland, is the team manager and coordinator of instruction for the two drivers, who have never done anything like this before.
When he was approached about helping the team, Executive Vice President Jerry Chenkin (Honda Canada) took less than one hour to assimilate the information and donate the 2010 TL SH-AWD 5A. It's a bigger car than normally competes in the Targa Newfoundland, but it seemed the obvious choice considering the particular needs of the drivers.

Video from one leg of the 2009 Targa, taken inside the cabin of an Integra.
You're doing this for five days straight. I don't think I could do that.

wow Ive never heard of that! Should be cool.
That Integra driver seemed skilled but easy on the throttle on straights, I wonder why.

That is BADASS. I will be watching for it while I follow the Targa (which I plan on running in one day, after following it the last few years). Really neat event, full of people and cars with a lot of spirit.
Did he change the engine? The current engine is an LS/VTEC that can't be putting down that much power.

Targa NL 2010 starts in 3 days, this sunday, cant wait. line up is looking great for this year.
I think that TL is hiding out in this trailer. Found it the other night :D
If you're going to be in the midst of it this year and don't mind giving us updates every once in a while, we'd all appreciate it. :-)
That wont be a problem. I'll be attending the events for the first 2 days, after that its on the other side of the province for a week, then back this way for the last 2 days.
Fingers crossed we dont have many damaged cars this year.

Thanks.
I think we all know the TL won't do well, but it'll still be interesting and good to get updates about an event that is very under reported at Honda-Tech.

These guys seem to think they finished first in class.

"1st in class and 7th in division" in addition to "7th place overall" in the title. That seems REALLY unlikely, so I'm wondering if someone got mixed up. What the heck is a "division" anyway?
Edit: Hmm. So there is a class WITHIN the "Modern Class" or "Targa Modern"...group I guess? They placed first for that, which was the 8-L1-Lg "class" (consisting of 4 entries total), and 7th in the "Targa Modern". There were, however, 14 people in other classes who finished better than them, for what looks like a 21st overall out of maybe 45 or so finishers. That is some damn confusing organization.
