I think he will go through trannies like a fat bitch at an all you can eat. And if you ran a turbo on the sohc with a safe amount of boost you will be very dissapointed in the gains. You will probably only run like high 14's or 15's even, so is 3 grand worth that?

You shouldn't even DRIVE an automatic, let alone turbo it. Someone who bought an automatic in the first place doesn't care enough about performance to bother with a $3000 performance mod.

Tell him to get a body kit.

Alternately, to give him the benefit of the doubt, if he got into performance and just happened to have this car that he bought before he was into performance, tell him not to bother, and to sell that car, and get one that is a stick, and then turbo that.

turbo auto is a decent powermod, and theonly option you really have with an auto. if it was me personally, i would sell the auto and pick up a manual, more options available to you with out breaking anything.

If your friend like automatic (like I do) he does want to give it up...If he is going to run a turbo I would suggest getting a Level Ten (www.levelten.com)transmission.
The transmission has a mod on it for a shifttronic shifter...very kwel.
They are expensive but worth it.

Don't do it, sell the car and buy a stick.

Unfotunately, i was forced into an automatic, but i'm in the process of purchasing a stick. That would be my suggestion to you. Then you can swap, turbo, whatever...it's limitless. Good luck with whatever you do.

tell him to buy 10 extra auto tranny to sit at home to be ready to go in the car when it blew up...

the auto is weak... can't handle too much power..

Actually, A buddy of mine has a 95 Civic EX auto-- and at 7.5psi he put down 180hp w/ the Greddy kit. He runs 14.7's consistantly at the track, and from a roll (long gears) his car is pretty powerful. So I say, if you're stuck-- Turbo that bitch. Oh, he's also on stock tranny, and it runs alll day long!

instead of buying 1243432 mroe trannies why dont you just swap over to 5 speed. if you find a 5 speed civic at the yard... you have pretty much everything there. and itll be alot cheaper than going with levelten.

5-6lbs of boost on auto and still goin strong. it works but jus don't go crazy and boost everywhere you go.

don't listen to people who haven't tried it

I had a Turbo Accord automatic. Did I like driving automatic, I hated it. But my parents gave me the car after I graduated high school so I didnt have much choice or option to sell it. I turbo'ed it a few months later. I have the dynograph lyin around somewhere. My baseline was, if I remember correctly:

125-133/hp and 122ft lbs.

After the turbo and COMPLETE stock exhaust w/ cats. I boosted at 7psi. Dynoe'd 191hp/190tq. This was with 18" RH C5 EVO's.

Did I mention this was all an automatic? Went through 2 motors. About 37k miles total. Boosted of at LEAST 7-8psi and as high as 12-13psi. Yes, stock block. I have some pretty good kill stories. The most humerous kill was a 1994-1999? Mustang Cobra. Yes, SVT Cobra off the line.

All motor NA run on 18" wheels, was 18.1
Same setup @ 7psi = 15.6

Hey Migs this may be a noob question, but what do you mean you went through two engines? Are you saying that the turbo killed the engine, which caused you to go through two of them? Just needed some clarification...thanks.

Not a n00b question. I didnt really elaborate on how I blew it.

Engine #1 - I was racing a Supra TT top end for literally 10 minutes @ 10-12psi (stock motor)

Engine #2 - The oil return line popped off, so thats my fault, and not the Turbo's.
