Default Cam Caps

I have an extra h22a head, that has a set of cam caps from another h22a.

I've heard that using different cam caps will damage the camshafts, is this true? I've also heard people doing this 2+ yrs and nothing has happen and some say that it happens when the cams are over torqued.

Plz help me find the truth in all this mess,

Its a bad idea. The heads are machined with the cam caps bolted on, if you go and switch caps the the cap portion of the bore could be shifted from the lower portion of the bore. I've seen someone do this and the cam wouldnt even turn because it was shifted so far. You might get lucky and find something that works, but you might want to have a machine shop look it over for you.

Well I did place the cams in qnd torqued the caps down and they spun. So maybe I did get lucky.

I may just look for a bare head that has no cams, springs etc.

If you wanna use different caps you would have to have the machine shop bore/hone them so that they are fit and machined together. They would use more or less the same technique of Line Honing like they do on the crank, but they would also have to machine the mating surfaces of the cap to the head so that they fit nicely.
