Ok... yet another problem with my crx
First I wanna say thanks to all you guys here... without this site, man I dont know what i would do! I can fix whats wrong, its just figuring out what the problem is that is the hardest!

So I am driving to autozone to buy axles. I step on the accelerator and the car bogs down instead of speeding up. I coast off the road and turn the car off. It started one minute later and idled fine. I got back on the road and made it 5 blocks before it started doing the same thing. This time it died. I got it off the road and it started and immediately died a couple of times then just refused to start.

The car has almost a full tank of gas, battery is fine, engine cranks when I turn the ignition... any ideas? I have class Tuesday.. must fix it asap!

 

any check engine codes? and what engine you got? any recent work done to the car?

 

the car was running perfectly fine for along time before this problem, it just needed axles. no recent work. its a D16A8, i dont know how to check for engine codes... what do i need to do that?

 

There is an open plug in the passenger foot well, green i believe, loop the circuit together with a piece of wire paper clip whatever. Count the flashes on ur dash long is ten short is 1, then look up code.

No, i thought the SI ecus had blinkers on them.

Sounds to me to be a bad coil. Then again im no genius.

anyways....original poster....to simplify it....put ur key in the ignition, and turn it onto the on position only, lift the carpet up on the passenger side floor board, u'll see a panel with a lil glassed round window, look inside that window type thingy and u'll see ur LED of ur ECU, if its flashing red, that means ur throwing codes. depending on whats wrong with the situation, the flashes are long or short. say for example if its short flashes and there are 4 of them. that would mean that ur crank positioning sensor is going off.
or if its one long flash follow by 4 short, thats a 14 and that would be your idle air control valve thats glitching. after its done flashing there will be a pause, and it'll start over again with the same number of flashes or it could go to a different number of flashes.

Me and a friend went out to the car to check for codes. We found the box and LED light. When I turned the keys to ON position the light blinked once and that was it. We waited but it didnt repeat or anything so i started it up. It started immediately and ran perfectly fine all the way home... wierd. Should I just forget the problem and go on, or should i be doing some preventative maintenence? advice?

 

Pray to your god and wait for the engine to blow up. lol

 

Car wouldnt start this morning... when i turn the key to ON and the yellow light lights up, i normally hear the fuel pump or whatever priming... instead it sounds really bad... like its trying to do something but cant do it. Im pretty sure the engine is just not getting fuel. Checked for codes again also.. getting no codes at all.

Im thinking about changing the fuel filter and if that doesnt work then changing the fuel pump? is that what the problem is? any ideas anyone?

 

what my mechanic told me about fuel pumps is that when they go out they go out. They just stop working. They have no warning signs. If I were you I would tow it to a shop and have them diagnose it.

 

my car was doing this, got a new alternator and it was fine. do you have a volts gauge?

 

so you do have spark right i had a similar problem i had power fuel air but no spark so i changed my distributor and still nothing i did some more looking around and found a wire was cut i heat shrunk it and it turn right on

also before i found that out it would start but as soon as i moved it it would die cause the wire werent touching

i would check all your wires before you buy a pump

I live in a small town in Kentucky at the moment... the auto shops here are super sketchy and usually dont know a thing about hondas. So id rather not take it to a shop. My friend has a volts gauge.. what to do with it to test altenator? If you said fuel pumps just normally die, then perhaps its not the pump since sometimes the car will atleast start and sometimes it doesnt?

I dont see any wires disconnected either. The car starts up occasionally but dies quickly. When I started it earler i stepped on the gas while starting it and the car actually started and revved just fine for about 10 seconds before dieing... again no codes so the engine is fine right?

Going to change fuel filter today and see if that does anything...

 

FYI another known problem with this year crx/civic is the main relay which is on the dvrside a-pillar

 

Dont think its the main relay, i have had that problem some time ago and the engine wouldnt crank at all. The engine cranks strongly when i turn the key, the fuel pump just doesnt seem to be priming when the yellow light is on, makes funny noises

 

Fuel pump relay is on driver side near the hood release lever put your ear in that area and put the key in the ignition turn the key to the start position you should hear it click twice if it does then it should be working


Also my girl friends 91 integra would start run for a bit and then shut off so. Pressed on gas while it was on and it still died what was causing that was the starter

i had this problem also, replaced the fuel pump and i was good

 

start the car and disconnect the battery, if the car dies right away your alternator is probably bad

It was the fuel pump! replaced it with a walbro 255lph and everything works fine now! thanks guys
