power steering to manual steering rack swap
is there a manual rack that i can put on my 89 accord. or is there more to the swap than just a mere swap. i hate ps, its a problem like turbos, prone to fail. give me a wimple charger any day, and off the line power to boot. blown turbos will knock out a engine by burning up the engine oil.
It will be rare find but the car you have to look for is the first year of the 2nd gen Preude (1983) 5speed. This car shares the a lot of the same runing gear with the 3rd gen Accord and may be compatable. I'm not sure on if the rack bolts to the beam or the body on your car.
When I did this conversion on a 1st gen Integra I swaped it out with the 3rd gen Civic beam, manual rack, tie rods, and the boot that goes between the rack and body. I did all this because the powersteering rack mounts to the beam and had a much bigger mount next to the steering gearbox that would have left the manual rack flopping around.
I would say if the rack bolts to the beam it would be a simple bolt on thing but if it mounts to the body things will be difficult and probably wouldn't be worth the hassle.
