Construction company wants to total out my car.... HELP!!!!!
Construction company damaged my motor due to their manhole. Their saying that my 00 ITR with 103,000 miles is worth $4-6000.
They were offering to fix the car but now that they "think" the car is worth that little then they would total the car out and they offered me $5000 to buy it.
I am not going down like that. I tried looking up information and need some websites that will prove to the guy that my car is not worth $5000.
The only website I found so far is the USA Today Top 10 Japanese cars.

Tell them that you want what it is worth in todays market. Find some Type Rs that are forsale here and other sites, like this one.
Print out the description and price. Tell them that about the limited production and find out the name of their insurance company.
Their insurance company will be willing to research your facts and will probably offer to let you buy it back for between 15 and 25% of what they determine it's worth.
If the construction company is self insured, you should spend $125 and talk to a lawyer.

If you want, I can give my car information since I recently purchased it. I have the signed contract between the seller and me. PM me if you are interested.
Do no let it go without a fight. In 2006 this moron reversed on my at a stop light, he hit my 1987 CRX. Very little damage took place but they wanted to take my CRX for $1100 and I put up a fight, they later said keep the car and we will give you $1100, I then again said no.
At the end I received $1600 for the hassle they caused me, the rental I never received. You have to put up a fight, insurance adjusters are like shady lawyers they will do whatever to make them look good. They do not believe in fair, its only fair when its to their advantage.

assuming you have comprehensive insurance, you can call your own insurance company and make a claim. you'd have to pay your deductible, then your insurance will try and get the money back from the at fault party. I work for one of the top 5 in the country insurance companies, and we use a third party service to value total losses. Theres pretty much no way your car could be considered a total loss, unless its like 8-9k in damages. pm me if you have any insurance specific questions.

I understand that, I didnt mean to generalize. I just get upset at the fact that they treat every case to be fraud and that they do not consider the hardship you have to deal with for someone else's actions. At the end of the day it is still an ordeal that an individual has to deal with and you might as well get the best out of it. Why should you lose out when someone else is the creator of the problem. Now the fact is, my crx had no prior damage, and if I was able to keep it in that mint condition that I had it in then one day it would have been worth something. But I am just being bitter
and want the best out of the problem.

When that hapened to me, I ended up with the settlement offered, and then bought the "total." I fixed the major problems like a new hatch lid. found one at a yard, same color, no no paint. It has a few wrinkles in sheetmetal and is not perfect, therefore the perfect "starter" car for new drivers. Still going strong at over 300k miles and I see it frequently. I think the owner may get first refusal, so you can sometimes feel better getting the car and money, but it will not be enough to restore the car unless you do the work.
In California, that's the law, I've called the California Insurance Commissioner's office for verification of what the specific law called for when they valued my vehicles.
At my company we use a third party valuation place called CCC. They have a database as to what near identical vehicles have recently sold for in your region, for example they would see what other 2000 ITRs have sold for recently and take their value from that adding for option and condition/mileage. It's usually less than dealer retail but more than private party in KBB. Closest i've found is NADA.
Go to Autotrader.com and look for itrs for sale in the site. Then show the ads to your insurance show they can see how much the current value ( how much people are buying ITRs for ) is going for.
Am I the only one interested in knowing how a manhole damaged an engine beyond repair? Is this a cracked oil pan leading to the engine seizing type of deal??
There are 3rd party companies that can run either a market analysis for a valuation of your car and/or an actual appraisal. It might be worth going that route for the officialness of it
