Y1 Tranny
So i went to pick up a transmission the other day that the casing was broken on. Was told it was a b18a1 tranny and when i got it home i inspected further and found it to be a 88-91 sir tranny.
More or less i was curious if any b series case would work or if the gears are case specific? Thanks again.

Sounds like you got scammed a bit. the y1 is a jdm civic/crx transmission from an SiR as you said, but it is also the most common for grinding issues, plus oem parts such as gears can not be purchased in north america....plus yous has a broken case....i hope you didn't pay much or anything for it?
The case you can use would be from a 1990-91 Integra only, as it's the small main shaft style as the Y1 is....lot of work switching it, but can be done for sure

Its also stamped lsd and has the differential in it. i have the case apart and it doesnt have any chipped or grinded syncros or gears. I paid 50 dollars for it. I dont believe i got scammed at all.
YOu won't know that till you try it! You could end up spending lots of your time, plus the money on a case and have it grind like a mother.......2nd and 3rd gear grinds are super common with that gearbox, but you may luck out and have no issues
Good luck, i hope it works out

thanks for the help, and the support.
Ill post pics tonight of the internals.
i am hoping to be able to find a case online.
What it looks like to me is that it was probably in mid ship from japan and got dropped. Clean break no metal inside of tranny when i opened it. But then again like you said, you never know.
