Tire Sizes Help Please !
I'd go with 215/50/16, personally. If you really feel like cramming your fenders, you can get 225/45/16. And of course, there is always the option of getting 205/50/16 or 205/55/16.
Rib away!!
First number = Tread width (metric)
Second number = Aspect Ratio (for instance, 195/60R15, 60% of 195 is how tall the sidewall is)
Third number = I hope you can figure that one out!

This is funny, we actually had a newbie in the same situation as you a while ago.
We ribbed him to death to find the info himself.
I have two words for you.
Tire Rack.
Problem. Solution.
Now I wonder if we should ribb you like we did the last guy.

Actually, the proper tire size for 16in wheels would be 205/45/16.
BTW, the first 3 numbers xxx/50/16 is the tread width in millimeters.
The second two numbers 205/YY/16 is the percentage of the sidewall in comparison to the tread width. This means how "thick" the sidewall (top and bottom) is in comparison to the tread width.
The last two numbers 205/50/ZZ is the rim size. So to find out which tires you should be taking, you simply find out the outside diameter of your stock tires by taking the tread width, and multiplying it with the sidewall aspect ratio (percentage) and adding it to the rim height (remember to convert to millimeters). And then compare it with the other tires.

He's got a Civic or Teg? The tires will be undersized if he does that. VERY undersized. They're slightly undersized if you run 205/50/16 on his car.

195 divided by 25.4 = X
X times .60 = Y
Y times 2 (because you have 2 sidewalls) = Z
Z plus 15 = tire diameter. 24.212 inches.
Have Fun!
