CA REF Question: 96 Civic with 98GSR Engine.
Hey guys,
I have a question. My brother has a GSR which needs a rebuild (burning oil like crazy). Anyways I have a 96 civic with a JDM LS. Anyways..I wanted to ref the car with my brothers engine B18c1..since he recently passed smog..
I think I will pass to with all the oem parts in a 96 civic.
My questions is What harness do I need? Do I need a 96ex harness and is there any difference in the wiring "smog sensors" on the 96 Civic Engine and 98 GSR engines?
Thanks for all your help. Once I am done I will post a how I got my referee. So It will help others.
thanks!

Unfortunately there isn't a harness that will just plug and play for your situation. The Integra harnesses were two pieces and won't work for a Civic. The EX harness will be your closest bet. You will have to extend a few plugs and you will also have to add a plug for the butterflies in the GSR intake manifold. You may have to switch a few wires around and/or add some more plugs. I can't remember.
As for the REF, you need to have all of the 98 gsr smog stuff (cat, charcoal canister, all evap hoses and sensors, etc.) in the car and working and you should be fine. Make sure you have a carb legal intake and header and if I were you I would print out documentation proving the legality (because I had a carb legal dc header and an AEM intake, and yet the guy STILL wouldn't accept them, I had to prove it next time around).
Here is a good source for the wiring:

Also search on HT for GSR wiring with a civic harness.
