How do you Launch with 24.5x8.0x13" slicks and a 6 puck
Hey guys well after this weekend at The Battle of the Imports at route66raceway in Joliet IL, I'm pritty dissapointed with the times I got with my car...
My setup is this:
94 Integra Gsr Full interior
B18c1 stock head stock block
Arp headstuds
Maxrev turbo exhaust manifold
Maxrev 60-1 turbo .63 A/R exhaust wheel
Maxrev full 3" downpipe
Thermal Research 3" exhaust no cat
Drag lll Intercooler and pipes
Vortec Fmu 12:1
Rc 440 injectors
Skunk2 Camgears
InlinePro headgasket
Walbro 225 intank fuel pump
Tial 35mm wastgate
Profec B
Greddy turbo timer
Vafc
halmeter a/f gauge
autometer egt gauge
autometer boost gauge
autometer oil pressure gauge
autometer oil temperature gauge
autometer water temperature gauge
greddy type s bov
17" street tires
MT 24.5x8x13 on Lenso VPD'S
Action 2md 6 puck clutch
My first run I did a little 2nd gear burnout and reved the motor and keept it at 5500rpm and just dropped the clutch making the car bog all the way down to 1500rpm and come back up than I also managed to miss 3rd gear on this run,
needless to say I ran a 14.125 @ 110mph the 60 foot time for this run was a embarrasing 2.468.
Second run I did a big 2nd gear burnout reved the motor up to 6500rpm and dropped it making the car bog down pritty good but not as low as the first time around it dropped to about 2500rpm this run I missed 2nd gear but managed to run a 13.5 @ 114 mph the 60 foot time for this run was a embarrasing 2.199.
And the Third run I did another alright 2nd gear burnout and than tryed step-rev the motor up at the line but all that did is cause me to spin the slicks in first gear so I just shifted to 2nd and went from there this run I didn't miss any gears
and ran a 13.7 @ 113 mph my 60 foot time was another shitty one...
Out of the 3 runs I made my best 60 foot time was a 2.199 (the third run) and that is ****!!!
Now as fahr as the tire pressure in the slicks it was set to 16psi the reason behind that being I didn't wanna brake an axle because I had no spares with me...
Now what are your guyses suggestions and what do I do to bring my 60 foots down to a nice 1.7 or 1.8 I know my car is capable of low 12 second runs considering my mph but I can't launch it worth ****.
Do I need to buy more **** or do I need to practice...
Please Help Me!!!!

you have to drop the tire pressure down to at least 12lbs.
try that.. its a conservative amount of tire pressure.
dont go too low under 10lbs. you can work with 12lbs and it will make a diff.
no matter what, keep at 10lbs and above. i work closely with the M&H guys who have had 50 yrs of experience. and they keep telling me, why do people go below 10lbs.
if you have to go that low, they suggest bumping up to a bigger slick.
sometimes goign way low on the tire pressure isnt the best solution. but at 16lbs, thats pretty high. we suggest starting at 15lbs and working your way down until you find the best tire pressure for your setup.
on the rpm launches, you have to rev it up at least 6K. anything below that, you'll have a harder time to launch the car. i'd even take it up higher like 6500-7000 but thats pushing it and its not necesarry, especially you are worried about axle breakage.
good luck next time

Would you recomend me holding the engine speed at 6000rpm or step-reving it there??
Also would a step-rev device be better to use???
Thanks and keep the suggestions comming guys...
Adi
You need to launch with some kind of load, buddy...
2-step? Build some boost at the line and then let it loose...

i don't know your hsp so that would help. on an integra/civic coupe with between 325 - 350 hsp, run about 8-9 psi of air and launch between 7000-8000 rpms. dial it in until your hitting mid 1.70 60 fts.

Also Karl do you recomend me holding my rpm's at 7000 or 8000 or should I keep hitting the throttle and keeping it in that area........
exospeedAMcrx what 2 step rev unit would you recomend I have a msd coil right now and I would like to stay with the msd products, what would you suggest I use...

Now would you guys recomend I just dump the clutch of should I try slipping it as much as I can, I know there isn't much to slip with a 6 puck but I can try my best....
Adi
with the afc/fmu set up, you have to feather your throttle. holding it in one place makes you bog out of the hole. using a standalone allows you to hold it at one place. try dumping the clutch and try slipping it a little. usually i slip it slightly.
I will definitely get the studder step than because Its hard keeping the motor reved up in a certain rev range I think....

With those 24 inch slicks i would be launcing at 7000+ rpm's. I launched my integra with 22x8x13 at 7-7.5K and did 1.7-1.8's 60 foots. Your 110 trap speed is good and would probably be more if you didnt bog. I think your setup should get you into the 11's no problem. I never broke an axle by launching at 7G's and I launched there about 20 times but that is on 22 inch slicks dont know about 24's.

How much boost where you running on your setup? I have personally gone 11.9's at 113 in my friends boosted ls. You should have no problems hitting 1.7 60fts with those slicks.

isn't the FMU to high for those injectors?? Your probably dumping to much fuel and running crazy rich to the point your car is not running right. Swap out the 12:1 FMU with a 6:1 or try the AFC hack.
Again did you studder step it or did you just rev up and drop it....??

I was running 15psi and 110 octane but I just couldn't bring my 60 foots down..

I was in the red integra with the kit and frontmount, I would have called you but while working on my car I left my phone in my pocket and as I was rolling around on the creeper I smashed the screen and wasn't able to get any phone numbers out of it...

Too much fuel? Naaaaaaahhh It works good with my setup!!

I think I'm gona try doing it your way first and if it doesn't work I'm getting somekind of a two step rev device...

My recommendation is get rid of the FMU and VAFC and get a hondata 3b or the new model that has the launch limiter on it. No reason to spend the money on a MSD stepper box. The money you save buying this and selling the FMU and VAFC could almost pay for the stage 3b. Check out www.hondata.com for more info. Also, www.grdperformance.com will be tuning Hondata systems shortly. They are located in Naperville IL on Ogden Ave.
Hope this helps.
I just finally read this post...from talking with the guys at M&H, they didnt seem to have to much knowledge to me. Id run even as low as 6-7 pounds. They cant argue with me when I was able to run in the 9's with a 22 tall tire on that kind of pressure...If its still spinning, ride the clutch. Dont just dump it because thats how you break parts and its not the fast way to get out the hole. Ride it and get it hooked up and break less parts. You WILL go through clutches a lot faster driving the car like this though...Mike
Hey great I appriciate you guys that have been in the sport for a while helping me out but what kind of whp range should I bee in for the 24.5" slicks to be really effective...
Also ladysman thank you for posting with your comments but If I go with any kind of upgrade as fahr as fuel or ecu upgrade I'm definitely gona go with the Aem Ems...
