Please help a girl with a Transmission question
Hi all,
My 2000 accord v6 check engine light came on. The dealership reported the diagnostic code to be the 3rd pressure switch failure. My transmission was replace by Honda 5 years ago (70K miles ago). Is this switch something that I need to replace immediately?
Thanks

I would replace this as soon as possible because most of the transmissions on these model cars are crap to start out with. But i am not familiar with the switches so it may not be a big deal.
Without an accurate pressure reading, the clutches won't engage and shift property. This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later since this will lead to premature and unnecessary wear.
The first step is to check/change the fluid. It is very possible that weak fluid is making the pressure low causing the switch to read low. Check the fluid - if it is not cherry red, then it needs changed. The more black that it is, the less effective. If it is like black-cherry in color, then change it more than once. If it looks like root beer, then you are LONG overdue for a change. Wipe the dipstick on a white cloth and post a picture if you are unsure. If you haven't changed the fuild in that 70K miles, then this is likely a huge problem. The Honda fluid needs to be changed often - more often than Honda tells you. If you need to know how to change the fluid, then just ask. It is easy to do and can be done yourself. Do not have a shop "flush" it - a series of drains and refills is better for your car.
Do an online search for the pressure switch and buy one. The labor to put in on should be less than an hour at a good shop. These are externally located - if a shop tries to screw you into more than a hour of labor or that they cannot change it without taking the transmission out of the car, then run away. If the shop tells you that you need a new transmission, then run away. If they tell you anything other than "sure, we know where it is and will put it on for you" then run away.
