New Quarter panels or buy a rust free shell
What's up everyone,
Currently my rust has got worse and I wanted some feedback on a question i been thinking about. The cost of paying a shop to replace my quarter panels on both sides be worth it or should i get another civic with no rust? I was thinking if i got another 92-95 civic coupe/hatch or 94-00 integra so i know that all my parts i put into the car would work. If a shop charge me over $2,000 i might be able to find another car for that price. hope anyone can put their two cents in.

Do you like your current Civic? How does it run? How much have you spent on it?
Down here I would probably buy a new shell, nothing has rust. In NY you may have to spend a pretty penny to get something rust free.

I have alot of JDM goodies with a clean interior. if it wasn't for the rust i would get it painted and it would look like a new old school civic. I hate to get rid of it b/c i have over $10,000 in it. I was planning on getting a turbo this winter but i think i rather spend that money to get the rust fix. I'm having a hard time making up my mind.
I would probably keep it and try to get it fixed if I were you. It seems like you've invested a ton of your time, money, and self into it.
id say keep it. cut out the rust. the whole piece. not just the little area. find someone who welds and have them weld new pieces of metal and have them shape it to the quarter panel. then paint it.
I seen a few thread that refer some websites for quarter panels but i see some have the rust spot comes back.. which ones is good or is there a certain thickness i should get?

if you were here in cali i would buy another shell you can find some for cheap less 1000 i got mines for 500 im talking about a eg shell so you would just be able to swap everything over..im not sure about prices over there thouhg
clean shells (couple/hatch) are hard to find in good condition. if i was to replace the panels the car will be garage keep as much as possible. i'll have to weigh out my options.
Yeah it'll be a tough comparison sometimes...finding somebody who can weld and shape panels really well can be rare without paying as much as you would for a shell in the first place.
Have you pulled off your sideskirts/front mudflaps/trunk carpet? Sometimes there will be alot more rust in there than you know about if you really dig. Might check that before you start getting estimates...might completely change the situation for you.

I would toss a turbo on it and love it the way it is, that way is people gotta problem with it you could waste them in a race....
Imagine getting your *** handed to you by a rusty *** civic.... Priceless!

I haven't thought of removing the side skirts to check but I will soon because looking at that hole is driving me crazy. Beating people with a rusty *** car with a turbo would make me laugh everytime I see that, lol. A turbo kit can always be used with another civic but panels will only wear out if not done right. I'm going to ask around and get some prices.
To give my two cents' that's not bad at all. I'd say fix it . Two ways eBay sells partial quarter panel patches or u cam buy a set of used civic fenders. Cut out the front part.it's already got the shape and lip. Weld them in. And so a lil body work and paint it. It's a fraction what u would spend at a bodyshop
. Been a auto body tech or 7 years . All that a body is gonna so is charge out the *** with mark up. If it interest I can send u pics of the same thing I did with my accord. And the rust was wayyyyy worse. It's been 4 years and still rust free.

I would find clean shell. if there is rust there im sure its elswehere.the **** is like cancer unless you strip your car down to nothing I mean nothing like bare metal it will always be there weather you can see or not. And will most likely come back
in the NY area its really hard to find a shell that doesnt have rust, and if you do they always ant alot of money for it and one day it might start to rust anyways 0.0 i would just get the shell you have now repaired
I had the same dilema on my 1990 DA. The rear lower part of the wheel wells were rotted as well as the rocker panels on both sides. It had minor surface rust on the body in various spots as well. The body shop charged me $250 to fix all the rust and weld the holes from the factory wing and trunk emblems. Alot cheaper and easier than transfering everything to a new shell.
I will shop around to see what prices i get to fix some of this. I found a nice clean shells but i will weigh it out depending on the price i can get.
i just chacked the database at work (work at a body shop
) the quarters are like $700 + each
....
so if you can find a clean shell for $1400 or less then go for it!
i know its tough to find a CLEAN RUST FREE shell dude (i live in north east too) but maybe you could take advantage of someones stollen recovery shell?
