Hello everyone! I've been having this noise happen since 1 year ago. A lot of people are saying it's a spun bearing.


Took it into Acura and they "claimed" they found metal shavings and that it's most likely my bearing and that I was lucky to even be able to drive it to them.

I'm wondering if that's the case, how come my motor hasn't gone yet, or gotten louder from what I've noticed? Been hitting Vtec almost daily since.

Brought the car to a different mechanic and he said it sounds more valvetrain related. The valve clearance is also to spec.

Wow, something is definitely wrong with that man. I cant really tell too well but it ALMOST sounds a spun bearing like people have been saying. If all of your valvetrain is to spec which you say it is, thats the next feasible area to check, but of course that requires teardown.

I'm going to shop around for bottom end stuff for worst case scenario. because if it is in fact a bearing that's been happening for ONE YEAR now....My bottom end is already done.

could be a floated valve...could also have something to do with the oil squirters...i know it sounds weird but my buddys b16 made the same noise and it was just oil squirters which still requires a tear down unfortunately

sounds sorta like floating valve but my guess is rod knock, what acura dealer did u take it to?

 

Hey man! I recognize your avy pic from ClubRSX. I took it to Hidy Acura AKA Acura of Dayton.

They diagnosed Rod knock, and refused to check valves because it was "already diagnosed". *shakes head*. Heard to many stories of false diagnoses. Took it to a trusted mechanic, he said if it's rod knock, might as well drive it till something goes wrong and replace motor

 

now i know its rod knock because ive seen yer car and what was in the oil pan.

 

Any ideas how it's been lasting for a year? You work at Hidy Acura?

 

i don't work there.. i was picking up parts and a friend asked me to step over and look at it for a second.. since i build rsx's for a living. engines are weird beast man.. some can run forever after having something **** up and some just wont.. every situation is different.

 

Oh for real? What a coincidence. Must've been that way when I got the car, then started noticin it when I put on my intake a year ago. If it can last me until I get funds, that'd be awesome. Where's your shop located? Enon?

 

i don't run an open to public shop anymore. i just do side work now, if u like, u can bring me the car and i can give it a once over.
