Yea. Its a whole different thing coming from drag. The adrenaline lasts a lot longer. There is always areas to keep doing better on.

Even though the course I ran wasnt the fastest being I had to run second gear the whole way, the skill level required makes up for the speed.

Keep it up. I have been AutoXing for 7 seven years now and I use those skills learned in almost every situation I encounter behind the wheel.

I've been autocrossing for well over 10 years, most of those on the national level. With that said, you'll rarely, rarely (in an ITR with stock gearing) be forced to shift into 3rd gear. And when you do, you'll be right back to second a few ticks later.

My gearing is actually pretty nice right now. I recently installed a 4.928 final drive and that really helps when I am not in vtec. By far the best mod I have done to the car.

One thing I noticed is that the car will tend to want to slide from the rear, which I was told is a characteristic of the dc2 type r. I really love how that feels along with being able to weave in and out of cones rather quickly.

I also auto crossed my first time yesterday. Was a lot more fun than the whole straight line. Most guys in my class were running low 30 second times and high 29 second times, my best was a 31.6. I was thinking about getting a koni/gc suspension over winter with 350/380 set up.

Nice to hear about yours as well. I will be using my stock suspension for a while until I can save the funds. Got some other committments to take care of.
You should definitely feel the car out some more with the stock suspension until winter...

I just went back to stock itr shocks and springs and removed some crappy "el cheapo" coilovers that I borrowed and now my car drives like new again.

Until you get on a course that has several 50-55mph sections. Then you'll be in between 2nd and 3rd all the time. And shifts cost more time than you think.

The ideal autox gearing in a car is 2nd gear topping out around 60-65 mph. This is the max speed you'll see on most courses across the US.

But, you're running in at least SM, so to be honest it probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things

In addition to that, we don't have a real track down here for that. Its basically some roads we can close and place some cones about. Thanks for the insight though. Would love to try out auto x in the US one day.

Sorry bro...no pics at this time. If I find someone that got some I will definitely share. The racing was done at night as well.

I will be going to one more auto cross event in october at Watkins Glen in the paddock area. I was hoping to get on the actual track one time before the season is over but with my 7 day work schedule its quite difficult

A stock ITR will be at 63mph @8400rpm and 68mph @9000rpm. A 205/50 tire will increase those speeds by roughly 1mph. Raising the rev limit is more economical than swapping out gears, although you don't get the benefit of the gearing torque multiplier.

The only way you can raise the rev limit in the ITR is if your car is in at least DSP. It can't be done in stock and it can't be done with the ST ruleset (with the ITR OBD-II ECU).

And I think you mean a 205/50/15 will decrease those speeds. It is shorter than the 195/55/15.

Well increasing the rev limit in my case would not be the best choice. I say that because during my whole session, my car never saw redline in second gear...the car was being pushed to the limit imo as well.

Is there anything that could be done to reduce the rear of the car "sliding" to put more speed in the turns?

Without modding the suspension, there are only two ways to do it (IMO): Modulate the throttle during turning instead of lift off completely and play with your tires pressure. I belive soften the rear tires will help.

I was thinking about softening the rear. I will work on modulating the throttle better.

Thanks for your input.
