91 si squeal in first gear
i have a 91 si hatch with a d15b. 91 si trans with act clutch, lightweight flywheel. i juss recently swapped this motor in this car so the clutch is less than 5 months old. now when i take off in first gear it lets out a squealing noise. im thinking the throwout bearing buut for petes sake its not even 6 months old! i greased the hell out of that bearing too...could it be a wheel bearing maybe? somethin else besides in the trans..
well its a 91 hatch so power steering is already eliminated off the list...ac belt is tight but now that you mention it im gonna check the tensioner pulley. ive got an eg compressor. im using the entire bracket from the car i pulled the compressor from so maybe that pulley bearing is about to go. maybe ill juss pull the belt off and take a drive...see what happens
prob solved. the bearing in the ac belt tensioner was locking up. barely spun. luckily i have a garage full of various ef parts laying around
the dreaded squeal has returned!! maybe that damn belt is too tight? its got some deflection in it like im assuming it should...i took off from a light a few min ago aaand squeaaak
..i shuddered. doh

I was using an old Dayco belt on my car for the longest time. Finally I decided to change it for preventative purposes, and i bought a $20 goodyear belt that squeeled like no other. I ended up exchanging that for a Gates belt, and no more squeel.
