Default *sigh* 6th gen tranny gone

Well, chalk another up to Honda's bad 6th gen trannies. I know they say that the 98 didn't have problems but really? This one started acting up at 130,000 miles give or take a few and is finally about gone. Just to help some people out who may have the same problem, it started with rough shifting when the motor was cold, 1st to 2nd gear. After it warmed up, no other problems. Then the O2 sensor CEL came on (I've read alot of people get that right before complete transmission failure on the 6th gens but I don't see how that goes together). Now it just downshifts really rough, like whiplash rough and gets stuck in and out of gears. Very dangerous in high speed traffic.

Anyways, I'm keeping my Accord, I like it. I don't want to pay a shop way more than it's worth to change it though and the cheapest I've found is around 2500 all the way up to 5000 dollars. I found a rebuilt auto tranny on Ebay for $950 shipped with a warranty. Anybody have any other places to buy one with a decent warranty for a decent price? I don't want to spend over 1500 for any of it and I can put it in myself. If it's gonna be more than that I'm dumping the car or parting it out. Anyways, thanks in advance guys! and sorry for rambling.

I don't think you'll find too many places selling reputable rebuilts for around 1500, considering the price for just the parts is typically around that.

Not saying it can't be done (you found the ebay one, though it being on ebay can raise some questions), but you typically have to "know someone" if you want it done by a known, reputable shop.

If you do want to tackle the rebuild, here is a thread with some pretty good tech:

Of course my recommendation will always be to swap it to a manual, but obviously that's not always an option. If you were willing to do it, here is the swap info:

You can look for something more visual on your own, but there's a start. Good luck!
