Default best brake pads

I am needing to upgrade my braking system. I am on stock calipers, rotors, and pads. First I want to change pads before I go more expensive and change pistons and rotors.

My car is making about 500hp and I need something that will stop me decently. I do drive this car frequently but not daily so I would like some pads that are low on noise and dust (white wheels and black brake dust dont help...might have to switch wheels....bye bye regas or powdercoat = /)

Does anyone have any suggestions? Hawk brake pads come to mind since I hear many ITR users use them but dont know exactly which ones.

Any help would be great.

The brake pads I am down to are these 2:
1. Hawk HPS Street brake (performance street) http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...+pads&cat=Pads $145
2. Hawk Performance Cermanic Pads (premium) http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...0&autoModClar= $150

Sidenote:

I went to the drag strip (1/4 mile). It takes me to the end of the track to finally slow down enough to make the turn going at about 20. Im trapping 120+ and I do stop in time for the turn around but would like much more leeway. Braking the whole way isnt fun

Thanks

You have a problem. There are brake pads that will give you more stopping power for your high-horsepower application, but they probably won't be low on noise and dust. The stock pads are low on noise and dust, but (obviously) you need more braking power. Sorry, you can't have it all.

Also, if you want more stopping power than the stock pads, the two Hawk pads you mentioned won't make all that much difference. At a minimum you would need to go to the Hawk HP+. The HP+ will give you better stopping power and resistance to heat than the stock pads, and won't squeal, but it does create a lot of dust (which is sort of a rust color, FWIW).

I am not sure that I know the answer, but have a few comments. Is this one hot stop and then aqdequate cooling before the next? I thought that most pads could achieve tire lock up, but some, OEM type, not tolerate the heat for repeated stops before cooling. If you can stand on your brakes and lock the tires, or ABS, then pads may not help. Tire grip and ABS can also affect distance. Most grippy pads do dust.

Yep. No such thing as high performance pads that don't dust or make noise.

And it sounds to me like you need a pad with very good cold-stopping power. Therefore, a set of track pads won't do you any good and may be worse than stock. You'll probably want to look at something like the Axxis Ultimate. But, that'll dust.

What would upgraded rotors be? Interesting info here and other places.

Upgraded rotors? Brembos with slots in them will more than likely stop worse than OEM rotors.

Think about it...you are reducing the surface-to-pad area of the rotor. This only works when your brakes are oversized.

Otherwise, stick with OEM or OEM-style rotors. Heck, most folks on here run the $25 autozone rotors on their *track* cars.

low dust and noise brake pads....that stop better than OEM. try KVR carbon fiber metalic pads. http://www.kvrperformance.com/

i've been running them for a few years now. they work very well. stop better than the OEM pad and have very low dust and are easy on rotors.

you no NOT want axxis ultimate.....yes they stop well but the brake dust and noise is insane...
