Too make a long story short, I have a 97 Civic EX with the 1.6 non VTEC engine with only 87k miles. It was totalled out by my 16 year old daughter. The car still runs and drives but it totalled body wise. I have been looking for a new body to put the motor in. However the 96-up cars are hard to find with bad motors or bad transmissions around me. I have found LOTS of 92-95 models that would work. My question is this- Can I use the 1.6 motor in the 92-95 cars that had a 1.5 in it? Physically the motors look identical so I think they would work. Just let me know you opinion. Thanks.

 

... ahh to be "young" lol. Yeah you can even use the same motor mounts and harness but would probably have to switch out the ecu. if you anymore questions just keep em coming lol I'll try and help as best I can.
you can pretty much use any D-series engine/transmission part with another D-series engine/transmission.

 

You would just need a obd1 dizzy and ecu.

 

That engine fits perfectly into those years. just use the stock parts from the 92-95. stock intake manifold, stock exhaust manifold. alternator, motor mounts. heck you can even use the same tranny from the totaled car. u dont have to change computers or anything. you just wont be able to plug in the crank position sensor which is no big deal because 95 and down doesnt use that. thats why those cars dont come with it stock..

 

If its being pulled from a 5 speed and going into another 5 speed its not a big deal, you will need to run an OBD1 ECU and have it chipped and tuned though due to timing differences. If its an automatic you flat out can't use the '97 transmission and there are a few other issues you're going to run into.
