Default sorry Turbo nooob here.

I just got a LS turbo EK.
I was wondering how important is it to have a air filter covering the turbo?
I see sometimes people don't have it. and My car didn't have one.

I want to buy a filter but i dont know what size to get? I have a t3t4 .50 trim turbo i believe. Im more concerned about the circumference of the filter.

if its a daily driver in my opinion its very there are to high of a risk to fod out your turbo
its probably a 3'' in

you can find a screen too if you don't want a filter but that's not 100 percent effective

just buy a quality filter not something that can be damaged easily

I would recommend getting a filter. If a little rock or something got in there, Just measure the inlet and find a decent filter that will fit.

Your 50 trim has a 3" inlet, depending on the brand of compressor. Measure the diameter from left to right to make certain.

K & N is good money well spent for a filter. The cheap ones are prone to breaking, & sending pieces thru the compressor inlet of your turbo.

I would get a filter ASAP.

K&N makes them in almost any size imaginable. You can even get them with an angled coupling so they fit easier.

I'm going to sound like the village idiot for doing this, but i run a double-layered metal screen which is held on with a worm clamp over the inlet of my turbo. I'd have a hard time finding a filter to fit my dimensions (without spending $100+) so i use this route and i haven't had any issues with my current turbo or any of my past turbos.
