sprung or unsprung for dd
Sprung. Helps keep engine vibrations out of the transmission.
Unsprung. Doesn't have spring related clutch failures.
There are good to both. Pick one. lol I've never used an unsprung on my personal car in my entire life. Never had a spring failure, and both clutches have lasted 30,000+ (Action 6-puck sprung on stock GSR motor and Competition 6-puck sprung on 375whp GSR motor) with daily driving, and track duty on 22" and 24.5" slicks, BFG radials, and regular street tires.

I've run both the Action 1MS (sprung) and Action 1MD (unsprung) in my car. Daily driver/HPDE car. 1MS lasted about 20k before I had to replace it after oiling it down with a broken trans case. No problems from it. 1MD has around 110k on it and needs to be replaced (slips slightly if I take off fast and squeals if I linger on the clutch pedal). Trans and engine wear are normal. I've gone through around 18 transmissions on the 1MD (trying different things out with them) and inspected all of them. Pan has been off the engine three times (inspected it when installing the 1MD, and checked it twice after that with 40k intervals).

it depends on the setup i run, if im gonna drag race it or not for what clutch setup i got... if its a true dd with a little mods i go sprung, but if im gonna be drag racing i usually go with unsprung just because i personally have had springs pop out of the disc at the track and it sucks alot
just parked and noticed it was hard to get out of reverse, so i sat there messing around then all the gears got hard to get out of and then i heard a part rolling around while sittting with my foot on the clutch. sounds like i have yet another disc that popped a spring, 3rd to be exact. i wanna say this cc stage 4 disc has 30k on it @ 2 1/2 yrs maybe. unsprung is looking good to me. if it doesnt have extreme chatter then why not go unsprung? im sick of wasting money because i have to replace a clutch that has tons of meat left on the disc because of a spring coming loose.
People say a sprung clutch causes less chatter than an unsprung clutch, I disagree. A sprung clutch is pointless because it causes more chatter and funky engagement vs an unsprung clutch. I DD'd an ACT 6 puck unsprung for several years before I converted to a twin disc.

and how often do you have to change a disc? lolololol
dont even mention them. i had that same clutch and it popped a spring at 5k miles, the ****ers said they would only refund me $5 and said i should be happy with that. they tried to say it was from extreme heat, improper installation, downshifting, and some more ****. i had that clutch during winter 20-30s outside what ****ing extreme heat.

I know this thread is older, but I use a Action 2ms sprung and love it. I have chatter sometimes but most clutches that are beefed up tend to chatter some. I have never owned a unsprung but I have drove a couple cars with unsprung and they felt awesome. Quick engagement and less chatter for sure, however, you are transferring more shock to your drivetrain. Expect more wear on the transmission and the possiblity of snapping an axle if you have a high hp setup and don't know how to preload. If it is a DD then you want longevity. Just my 2 cents.
