Clutch suggestions for B18C Track Day Car
Good Day All
I blew my clutch at the track last Friday. A usual day is 4 sessions of about 20 minutes each. I'm driving a JDM B18C with an S80 Tranny.. I like the feel of the stock clutch and dont want a rock hard clutch pedal. Id like to get some input from all you guys who do Track Days to see what cominations work. I was thinking of a 6 puck plate with a stock OEM Pressure Plate I believe the OE is a Fuji. Ideas???
Thanks, Ken

+3 for Exedy Stage 1
I've seen them lightly used go for pretty cheap, too.
Can handle any stock/cammed B18C1/C5 power and probably light turbo/SC use as well.
Definitely stiffer than OEM, but I daily drove one (with lots of bumper to bumper commuting) for well over a year and I even have knee problems and was fine.

Hyper single. Lolz. I hate that clutch. Shocks the trans too much and too hard to drive. I found the twin disc much easier to drive.
But for the OP, any oe-style replacement will work just fine. I've used exedy stage 1s and the disc always cracks around the springs. I was gonna use something else but I figured I would give exedy one last shot in the new (hydro) chassis.

I bought the Exidy, I guess its a stage 1, got it from World Pac and the clutch Disc comes in a pink box. I need to have it done this weekend, I know thats a bad excuse to buy something. But still I'm gonna use it. Oh... I should have mentioned I run R compound tires too. Somewhere I heard they claim to hold 300 Lbs or more or was it 380 Ft Lbs torque and Ill never do that but its the constant pounding I give it that I try to compensate for. I will be using this for mostly Track days but do drive the street from time to time. Summit Point at least 2 times next month, as many as 4 days.
I put just over 1000 street and highway miles on the clutch after I installed it and now the car is solely used for autox. The car hasn't seen more than 15 track days and although the ambient temperature usually tops 100 our runs are short so it's hard to say what kind of life it has left. Honestly I'm not even sure how many miles I've put on it, I'll have to look next time I get it out.
It still feels just like the OEM equipment though, so I'm happy with that. So far, so good.
