Check to make sure the injectors match the ECU. The z6 has obd1 injectors stock, and the resistance must match the cars system. If the car never ran, this is likely. If the car ran before you bought it, it's probably something else. I have an '88 Si with the z6 engine, and this caused confusion at first, but once we got the injectors matched, and the Vtec working the car turned out to be WAY fun. To work the Vtec, you'll need a P28 ECU, and run the car on obd1. My mileage went up by 4-5 MPG changing to obd1, and the car is faster, too

OBD1 ECU for D16Z6 P28
OBD0 to OBD1 Jumper Harness for ECU
Distributor for D16Z6
Jumper Harness for Distributor
Make sure your injectors require the use of the resistor box.

Get those items and the car should run perfectly.
