need help on tire size. new to all this stuff
I recently purchased an 88 CRX Si for $1200 and the factory 14" rims with peeling finish have to go. I`ve decided on Buddy Club P1 Racing SF rims in 15x6.5 and need help deciding what tire size to go with. I`m gonna put skunk2 sport shocks and skunk2 coilovers on this car so it will be lowered about an inch I cant go too low because I have to make it up a fairly messed up gravel road sometimes. Tire size is between 195/50-15 and 195/55-15. I`m afraid the 50 may leave too much of a gap between the tire and wheel well and I`m afraid the 55`s might rub when turning real sharp. What do you all say? Also, the offset of the buddy club wheels is 42mm, would these be sticking out the sides of my car? thanks alot

I think I`ll be going with the 50`s it seems thats what most people run. As for the Buddy Club P1 Racing SF rims (15x6.5), will they work good on my car being a 42mm offset. I dont want the wheels protruding out the sides of my car at all. I dont know anything about offset I`m trying to get a good understanding of what that is right now

If anything, you might want a small spacer to help push them out further for the "flush" look.
I like wheels to be flush. I didnt know offset pulled wheels in. What size spacer might you recommend? 1/4? I guess I could buy the rims and tires and put them on and go from there. Probably kinda hard to tell without doing
5mm is fine. and +42 is fine as well.. a lil sunk in but it wont rub the inner parts of your wheel wells either.
and i agree as well w. the 195/50-15

I think I`m actually gonna go with Kosei K1 Racing rims instead with Kumho Ecsta AST 195/50-15 tires. Trying to keep the cost down for now since I need tires asap
The Kumho Ecsta AST is a really crappy tire.
If you don't need to use these tires in snow, for almost exactly the same price as the crappy AST, you could get the Yokohama S.drive. (It's a summer tire so they shouldn't be used in snow.) It offers very good performance, good treadlife, and a bargain price. You can get four of them for $240 after the $40 rebate, with free shipping, from Discount Tire Direct.

What tires do you have on your current peeling 14" tires? If they're all-seasons, you could keep using those in the winter, and get the much better performance the rest of the year using summer tires (such as the S.drive) on your 15" wheels.
I think the rears are 185/65-14 and I think the front are 175/60-14. The tires are about bald which is why I`m trying to buy new rims and tires. I dont wanna waste money on tires for the ugly factory rims. Will 205/50-15 rub or somthing?
In winter, nobody cares how they look, because they get full of salt anyway. That's why so many people use steelies in winter.
Probably not, but they will throw off your speedometer, they will make your car accelerate slower, and they won't grip as well in rain or in snow - the differences aren't huge, though. And OTOH the ASX is definitely a better tire than the AST.
If it were my car, I'd get the Dunlop Graspic DS-3 winter tire in 185/60-14 for the crappy wheels in the winter, and the Yokohama S.drive in 195/50-15 for the good wheels the rest of the year. Granted, it means spending more for tires right now, but the winter tires will last you many winters, and those are miles you won't be putting on your summer tires so they last longer.
I just recently bought the car I aint the one who bought the screwed up tire sizes. I dont wanna buy tires for the factory rims because i dont really have any money. I dont wanna lose acceleration though that would suck. I got some thinking to do I guess
edit: I`m gonna go ahead and get tires on my factory rims for now and start saving to get one of the three rims I really like instead of settling for kosei k1`s and put summer tires on the aftermarket rims. I`ll go with 195/50-15 on the aftermarket rims (Buddy Club P1 Racing SF, 5Zigen FNO1R-C, or Rota Flight)

Thanks for the help guys. I just placed an order for Falken Ziex ZE-512 185/60-14 tires. I looked at the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires but they were a bit more than I can afford right now.
