Hello Folks...


I just wanted to show you a good way to clean your ITR Recaros more properly than "the old DIY" were you just clean the surface, but the dirt is still in it...

So let´s start.

What you need is:

ITR seats (or also you rear seats, carpet, floor matts etc....)

Garbage Bags (>60, diameter >65cm)

loose change (about 15€)

wet vacuum cleaner

flip flops & bathing suit


Let´s go:


1) We start by putting the seats in a suitable car. Drive to a good self-car-wash box.
My box costs in every programm 50cent for 2min.
You will need only the programm "warm water + soap" and "demineralised water".

Make sure the high-pressure cleaner has a propper spray and enough power. The water jet should be small but very wide.


2) When you are at the box, put some of the garbage bags on the floor near a wall and put the seats on it.

2.a) Let´s have look at them:

3) We begin with programm 1 (warm water + soap) an start at the top of the first seat. Keep a distance to the seat when you spray about 20-30cm.

You have to make some "pushing moves" from the top downwards. Do it line per line, maybe from left to the right.

Here is a pic from the beginning of the first few centimeters after just 2minutes.




4) When you finish the first seat, do the next one. Keep an eye on some spots where you maybe have forgotten to clean. (will be difficult on a black seat, so work in "stripes" from the top to the bottom, from left to right to get sure you didn´t missed anything)


5) After that, turn the seats around and have a look at them:

Clean them exaclty like you did on the front side.

5.a) After the first round an the backside, still pretty blurry.





6) Now turn the seat again around, so that you will see the front again. In the meantime, the front shows some spots where the dirt was flushed.

7) Now you do some circling-moves from the top downwards (still with programm 1) at about 20cm distance. Start from the upper left bit, then move in a lane rightwards, then about 15cm down and from the left to the right .. and so on and on. That makes sure you do it properly.

7a) Don´t forget to to also the sides of the seat!

7b) When you spot tenacious stains, work on the more focused.

7c) When you finished the front of both seats, do the back again.

8) The seat should be clean now, but you have to get the hard/chalky, soapy water out there. Otherwise the Alcantara will get hard and blotchy.

To do that, use osmosis water or demineralised water or condesed water - at my box it´s programm 4.

Start as always from the top and "push" the soap-dirt-water, that is in the seat, downwards till there is no foam. Do it on both seats at the front, then turn them round and do the back - after that, repeat it once more on both sides.

8a) And don´t forget to do the sides!

When you are pretty much finished, it will look like this:

Now, leave the seats where they are and open the trunk of your transportR
Lay some of the garbage bags in the trunk or even better would be a complete tarpaulin/canvas cover that you have to lay down in the trunk. It has to be a continuous, flat area covered in foil.

9a) Now get a garbage bag OVER the top of the seat and one bag on the bottom. Do that with both sides.

9b) When you finished that, put the seats in the car and drive home.




10) Arrived at home, get the seats as fast as you can out of the car and get them in the garden - in the sun - of your house.

10a) When both seats are secured make sure you pull the foil out of you car and there will be no water left in the car...


11) Now you start with the wet-vacuum cleaner. Vacuum them up, again from the top downwards, area for area. After the first 10min the cleaner will be full, so have a look how much dirt and soap the is still in it:

11a) After doing both seats and emptiing the cleaner 4 times, I did one last atempt and made a sharp cleaning again on the front and back again.



It´s pretty much only foam.



12) And because I got fed up with my shoes and jeans were entirely wet, my hands completely wizened and I became very hungry ... I gave the job to my wife by bringing her a "BiBop" and a seat :hug:





13) You are finished, pretty much. If you start in the morning on a sunny weekend (Saturdays), the seats are completely dry on sunday afternoon.

Over the day, stand them on a white wall (southside) and turn them round about all 2-3hours. In the night, get them in and store them in a warm, dry room that is good ventilated - otherwise it will get muggy.

14) After they dried, they look like this...

Now they are stiched, repaired and cleaned in the transportR-EJ6 on EK9 rails :]

Which seats? The yellow or the red ones?

The yellow seats don´t like blue jeans or wrist... or anything that will turn them dirty.
The set I got here, is from a crashed ITR from switzerland. The dark spots are blood (broken nose by hitting the steering wheel).

The red seat was low budget (about 320€) and came from a swiss mechanic who had them in his EG6 and didn´t care about their looks. -.-

The swiss treat their cars not that well as I think it should be.

btw: To all the PNs -> yes, the seats are for sale. They are from switzerland. Only 25 yellow ITRs were sold there in PY/SLY, then I got the info that there are 12-15 yellow seats from Japan and about 3 in Australia.

Are the EP3R (30th Anniversary)/ATR seats 6-bolt bottom mount like the SRDs?

 

Hi Christian! Any idea where I might be able to find that info documented by Honda? For the Swiss R's, I've heard all sorts of different numbers on the UK and other foreign forums. Only Honda mention of the yellow Swiss ones I've been able to find is the 2000 full lineup brochure...

I havent really seen any documentation on other numbers. Honda of Australia was no help as they said the 'limited edition' model was a dealer optional package (Not limited to yellow). They didn't have a color breakdown for me.

Hey Matt..

I got my info from my swiss buddy. There is official only 25 yellow ITRs with the special interior. This is how they got them, and not a dealer-made-special.

The other both counts are also only listen-talk ^^ Nothing confirmed. There was once a table that showed how much of what ITR in which year wasbuilt in what color (96spec Race spec, 96spec normal, 98spec, 98spec Race, 98spec GT, Type Rx).

There you will find, that there are only a hand full DB8Rs in 2000 which are almost all white with red seats + full interior (like Type Rx brochure)..





@blueintegraboy: Mhhh, I hadn´t had the EP3 30th seats. I just had the normal ones.

But I think you can mount any of the Recaro models on the Recaro rails. You just have to get the easiest rails for you, which are not difficult to re-weld.
EK9 - EJ/EK
DC2R - DC2, EG/EH/EJ
ATR/CTREP3 - CH/CG/EP/EU
