Any OBD2b ECU with the immobilizer removed will throw a persistent P1607 code.

PM user Katman. He offered a service to fix P72 and other immobilized ECUs for like $100 shipped. I'm almost certain he does it by replacing the immobilizer with some kind of dummy that sends the correct values back to the ECU, but I don't know exactly what he does.

I'm in the same boat... I've been running a de-immobilized P72 for a couple of years with a P1607. Katman is the only person I've found who knows how to fix it.

 

if i use a 98 ecu will it not throw that code since there is no immobilizer right

 

Correct, a 98 ECU shouldn't have an immobilizer, and shouldn't throw the code.

However, you'll need an OBD2b to OBD2a conversion harness to make it work in your car, assuming that your car is still OBD2b... which it probably is, since you're currently running a 2b ECU in a 2b car.

I can't comment on the legality of that in your area because I honestly don't know.
