i got a 89 civic with an ls swap but every time i switch gear to 3rd it grinds while running. when i change it slow it doesnt most of the time. does anyone know why is doing that. all the rest of the gears are good its just 3rd

 

3rd gear syncro is bad more than likely.

 

time for some GM synchromesh. work great for me.

 

were can i find the gm synchromesh?

 

At Pontiac or GM dealership. And i forget how much i put in.

 

i had the same problem in my delsol. if i shifted very slow, it hardly ever did it.

cant help tho, as i sold the car a little after i started

 

did they do it for you or you did it your self. i just checked on google and the bottle runs for like 15 bucks.

 

I did it myself. I remember I bought 3 bottles. And yes they are expensive. but for me it work great. my 2nd and 3rd grind, not all the time like yours though. But after I put the mesh in, It never grind again. So there is no guarantee for you, or it may help a little bit...

its just a bad transmission. and why? bc honda trannys suck. their synchros are weak and 2nd and 3rd always tend to grind on em.

 

mine grind at 5th..... solution shift really fast! LOL

 

why you hating on honda transmissions? you sound like you drive a mustang.lol.

 

i shift fast only on the high way when im speeding.lol but its a dd for now and its just annoying hearing that sound.lol.people just stare thinking i dont know how to drive.lol

 

drive an S2000 and still say that. its one of the smoothest transmissions

Yep it's been said but it's not exactly your "syncro" itself or else it would be 4th gear also. More importantly its the 3rd gear blocking ring for your syncro. While adding syncromesh might "hide" your problem for alittle while or make some sound go away for a bit it still doesnt actually fix anything.

 

And notchy doesn't equal weak.

 

oh well i dont want to hide the problem i want to fix it.

If you really wanted to fix the problem for sure for sure you could go replace the syncro between 2nd n 3rd and 3 gear as well and it would gaureteed to fix it.

 

Dam this sucks.lol i have like no time since im at work all the time. i guess i have to make some time cause it loud and embarrasing while driving.
