Default NO dash lights in 91 hatch.

Is this a common problem? or am I going to have to figure it out??!!

I just picked up a 91 Hatch (CX???) it has vinyl seats and the VIN says ED(chassis code?).. It was made in Canada...

200,000 miles.

Dimmer works.. fuse ok. The lights for the heater controls work (with dimmer also)

I suspect a couple bulbs out. The lady said it was intermittent, so I figured it might be common.

I had the same problem when I did a teg wiring harness into a 1G CRX. I found a little control box or something like that attached to the back of the teg dash, about 2"x2"x.5" , near the heater controls/radio area. Without that thing plugged in, the dash lights didn't work. Just a thought.

are the taillights out too? they're connected to the same fuse.

the little lights in the cluster are very easy to change.

same problem when i bought mine. remove steering wheel and steering shaft covers. remove gauge cluster enclosure. remove cluster. change bulbs and wipe down all places on circuitry that look to be contact points. i put colored bulbs in since i was already in there but you can only see the right side of the speedo lit up blue. anyways i did this and mine came on. what sucks is you do the work and than you've to wait until dark to see if it worked. i've not got into the heater control yet but mine is out also , but only the top half . weird. hope this helps . if i've been too vauge i.m. me or go get a chiltons or haynes book . good luck.

Cool. Thanks. I need a new wheel anyway (its sll mushy and twists in my hands)

I will do that. I had to do it in my old 240SX as well...

I know what you mean on the heater controls.. the part that has the fan speed is dark and I have to hit it to get the rest to come on!!

200,000 miles is tough on electronics!

if it was sold in canada it would be a cx... which is just a STD with a cx badge
he said it was built in canada (which i believe every civic from 91 on is) built and sold are obviously 2 different things though

you dont really need to pull the steering wheel to remove the cluster......if removed my cluster many times and i havent had to remove the steering wheel.....and i bet its just the lights burning out! mine had a few out too.
good luck.

DPFI.. Dual point fuel injection..... also the main reason the engine only puts out 72 hp at the crank. the throttle body is so small that it creates a bottle neck. If you want to up the HP, do a search for MPFI swap.

Thanks.. I have read lots on that already. Sounds great, but at this point I dont want to push this tired 200K motor any harder than I have to. If I want power.. Ill just get a swap. hehe

The ones beside the headlights?

The ones in the bumper only come on when signaling a turn.

really? oops, my bad. i thought they should come on when the parking lights are on. so, no lights in front should come on when the light switch is in the middle position?

Yes... the ones right beside the headlights (On the outside corner) should be on.. NOT the lower ones in the bumper.

If those are not on when the headlights are on (Switch turned all the way) then I would suggest its the bulbs.
