Adjusting the timing in a 5th gen??
I have several questions:
1) Y did Honda make one of the distributor mounting slots into a plane hole? Did they not want anyone to adjust the timing at all? I know I can drill the hole out and adjust timing if I want to, just want to know Y Honda does not want anyone do to this? (I know about the jumper also)
2) There is a chip in the distributor called the Ignition Control Unit (ICU), what does this chip do? How does it effect the timing?
3) Even if I do drill out the hole into a slot so that I can rotate the distributor will the ECU and/or the ICU readjust the timing. There must be some sort of auto-adjustment going on because if U read the manual it tells U that is it not necessary to adjust the timing.
Thanks

don't bother....
OBDII is going to cut you off at every turn. Even if you leave the bottom bolt out and twist it all to hell and back it isn't going to do anything.

1. The two sensors which effect ignition timing, the CKP and TDC sensor are now located on the crank by the crank pulley. Turning the distributor will not effect ignition timing anymore, so there's no reason for a slotted hole.
2. The ICU is a controller that controls the coil. It doesn't effect timing, only charging the coil.
3. See answer for number 1. If you want to be able to adjust your ignition timing, you'll need to use an electronic way of changing it, like the MSD timing controllers. Generally these aren't worth the money for an H22a.
