Quick Prelude Question (thinking about buying one)
im very close to buying another car, cause my accord is not so reliable these days. i ran across a 93 prelude si for $2500 locally. it comes with winter tires on the stock 16's and a set of some other 17's. 130'000 miles. also has an aftermarket exhaust and CAI on it. its an automatic though
. all in all, a fairly clean car with relatively low miles on it. i'd like to have it.
i was blue booking the car, and they list the si as having either the 2.2 vtec or a 2.3 non-vtec... both dohc. is this accurate?
the ad doesnt say what engine is in it, but because its an si, i figured it would have the vtec. apparently being an si doesnt guarantee anything. if that's the case, then i should make sure i know whats in it before i buy. i already sent the guy another email asking after i found out about the other engines, but i havent heard anything back yet.
worse case scenario, if it has the non-vtec engine, would it be worth buying? how are those 2.3's? are bolt on parts pretty common for it?
thanks guys!

Fairly sure the US 4th Gen Si model came only with the H23 just like
in Australia. As for bolt ons there are many available for 4th gens.
Most people will say go for a prelude with the H22 vtec which has
more hp but the H23 is a good strong motor too with nice torque.
Re: bolt ons , there are many header options for the h22, and only a
few for the h23, if you want an off the shelf header. Everything else
intake, suspension etc is fairly universal between all 4th gen models.
Hope thats of some help to you. Btw the rims on the lude in the
photo are the stock 15 inch rims. You should also check with the
seller that the lude hasnt had an engine swap, it could have a
h22 or f series in it instead of the original engine.

ok cool ride. the 1st thing you should do is get rid of those euro taillights and get oem ones. h23 is a very good engine. that one is not a vtec model. vtec model has a vtec emblem and leather seats and 5sp trans
Since you're coming from an accord, I doubt you're looking to a thrill ride. However, if you are, get the VTEC model with H22 and manual transmission. You'll thank me and yourself. If you just want a different grocery getter, not a bad choice.
thanks guys. the dude wrote me back this morning and says that its not the v-tec, its the h23 dohc non-vtec.
well, of course i would like a thrill ride, but i also have a limited budget. what does the 2.3 put out, about 160hp? so if it has a v-tec engine, it will definitely have the 5-spd & leather? i found a different one for about the same price, but its also listed as an automatic si.
im kind of on the fence here. i have about 1500 cash i can throw into the accord, or i could buy something else. for 1500, there isnt a lot out there that i would like to have. i can probably borrow the other grand to get that prelude, but if it doesnt have the 2.2, i dont know if its something i wanna go in the hole for. 1500 can buy a lot of new parts for my accord.
decisions, decisions!

yeah, im thinking that ill just buy an h22a and drop it in the old lx. only cost about half as much, and im happy with the accord car, just not the engine. i can use the saved cash for other little fixes that it needs, and in the end be just as happy i think... plus not have to go in debt! then if i feel the need, i can always swap the trans out on down the line.
