Default B18a1 swap help...

Alright, i got a 90 crx dx. Swapped the d15 and put in a b18. I followed this website (http://hondacrx881.tripod.com/mpfiswap.html) to deal with the wiring. almost certain my cousin and i did it right but when i tried starting it up today, nothing... lights were on, check engine light was going crazy, once i switched the key to on, i heard something clicking and sounded like it was under the dash and the ecu light was flashing. i dont hear the fuel pump go on either.. im not sure what the problem is. everything is connected besides the o2 sensor cause i couldn't find mine but thats it. help please...

Im pretty sure I know what it is.

I had the same problem when I was doing a swap.

You need to find all the ground wires, I think there should be three. one goes to the head cover, one goes to the tranny and the last one goes on the back side of the motor on the passenger side of car and it should connect to the water pump.

If any of those are not hooked up then it will do that and will not start, it makes that noise because it is trying to tell you something is not right.

if you need any more info let me know and let me know if that fixes it. thanks

Well no luck. That ground cable i seen did help out with the check engine light but yet nothing. Everything was on all the lights, heard the fuel pump this time, still hear the starter clicking, but no crank or anything.. i am not sure what the problem is. im guessing its the wiring but i went over every step 3 times..

try cross checking what you did with this writeup here

http://hondaswap.com/swap-articles/d...writeup-49557/

the last ground the guy above was talking about is not near the waterpump, that's by the timing belt. i can only assume he was referring to the thermostat housing. and yes it's extremely important that that ground be hooked up.

at this point is your CEL on?

also, you should keep in mind that the no cranking issue is directly related to the starter itself, ignition switch, and the main power/ground wires, and nothing else. i say this so you know that the ecu and mpfi wiring is not a reason for it to not be cranking. you could remove the ecu and set it on the trunk and the car will still crank over.

What do you mean by "CEL"? Its weird though because the first day i got the car with the engine in it, it started on the first crank.. Thats why i was doubting that it might be the starter. But i will check that. Actually, i've had the same problem with the d15 i've had before this swap. I would always hear the starter click and then i would keep starting it and eventually it started. Do you see a problem there?

cel = check engine light.

the starter clicking might simple be that the solenoid is failing. i've had this issue on both my honda's. replaced 3 remans and now the brand new starter is doing it to. it's really getting annoying at this point.

ok. so you say it clicks? if it's not a loose ground then i would bet it's the starter solenoid. in which case you'll need to replace the whole starter.

Or you could quick fix that by just hitting the starter with something. My truck does that sometimes and it starts right up.

yes. the ground wire coming off the battery goes to the chassis (just under the battery) then to the transmission by the clutch cable.

your using a B-series starter right? if so have you checked to make sure your getting a good connection on the starter signal wire (female terminal connected at the solenoid)?

sorry i had to ask. i know on my old harness the terminal connecting to the starter would make a crappy connection and from time to time it would slide off. so every now and again i would have to reconnect the terminal to get my car started.
