Default Is an AEM CAI insulated?

Are AEM CAi's insulated to keep the air cold? if not could you wrap some kinda insulation around it to keep it cold?

they're aluminum pipes, so of course they're not insulated. if you mean heat shielded to keep the air cold, well, no, they're not that either.

insulated = keeps things warm
shielded = keeps things cold

yes, you can (and should) wrap some heat-reflective material around your intake to keep the engine heat from warming your incoming air. header wrap from JEGS or Summit works real well for that. good question, though

They are ceramic coated.

I don't mean to come off like an ***, but I have a pet peeve about this. Insulation has but one attribute...to prevent heat transfer. It will keep heat from enter OR leaving a given medium. You're not keeping the "cold air" cold, but in reality kepping the air from gaining heat. So in that respect, ceramic coating, insulating wrap, reflective barriers are all effective to varying degrees according to the heat energy you are trying to block. Think of a thermos..."keeps hot things hot and cold things cold".

There's my short rant

a hondata intake manifold gasket would produce better results that cooling the intake.
reason? the intake manifold is still hot.

Do you think the ceramic coating is enough to stop the air from being heated? I would like to try and wrap it with something to keep it icy cold.

Also another question.... kinda dumb, but anyways,. In winter, In Canada its phucking freezing. Im wondering because its so cold outside does this make my SRI a CAI??? lol, seriosly, does the freezing cold air outside help? performance?

The air will only heat up to about ambient temperature. Take a metal pipe with running water...put a blowtorch to the pipe. Do you think the running water will be in the pipe long enough to be significantly heated? Not really.

SRI become a CAI? I'll leave that question alone...

does it make it a CAI no, does a car preform better in cold climates, yes

the aem cai is ceramic coated with a high temp resistance...and i have used foil wrap from home depot with a rated r temp which really helped my intake from getting hot... just my 2 cents
