Default 16 inch RA-1 on EK

I have to run 16's on my EK and stay with a 7in wide wheel do to rules and a 12.2 front brake setup. I need to run RA-1's but only 2 size are offered that are even close. I know I would much rather run a 15 setup but have not found any 15's that fit over the brakes. So.... is the 225/50/16 RA-1 ok? Or should I try and squeze the 245/45/16 under there. I would post in the RR/AX section as its also kinda an H2 prep question.

I'm moving this to the RR/AX forum with the hope that your question can be answered there.

In general, though, there aren't many R compound track tires available in 16" sizes.

If those are your only options you have don't have much of a choice.
225/50/16 should be fine.

I'm not so sure about that. That size is almost an inch and a half larger in diameter than the stock tire size. Coupled with the added width, it's possible they might rub - even more likely if your car is lowered.

The RA-1 also comes in 205/55-16. The outer diameter is identical with the 225/50-16 but the narrower width will give you a bit more clearance.

Does it have to be the RA-1 (like if you're in some kind of spec series)? Because if not, the Kumho Ecsta V710, which is another good R comp, is available in 215/45-16, which will almost certainly fit on your wheels and on your car without any problems.

yeah the car is being prepped for H2. I bought the car used and getting it ready for next year. The car came with the Fastbrakes 12.2 inch Wilwood kit otherwise I would def move to a 15 inch wheel. If I could find a decent FOR SURE fitment in 15 inch I'd be all over it. I've test fit a few 15's and none come close. So yeah I need to stay with the RA-1. I've looked over the spec sheet for the 225/50/16 vs the 225/50/15 and its 24.9h vs 23.9h respectively. The car came with 2 225/50/16 bfg's that don't look too bad and fit the 16x7 rim decently. If I have them shaved to 6/32 I'll be a little closer in height and weight. I "could" run spacers as it has extended studs, but I hate having to go that route.

Why aren't you considering 205/55-16? As I indicated above, the slightly narrower width will give you a bit more clearance.

Try a 15 X 7" Team Dynamics Pro Race 1/1.2 they will fit over the Wilwood 12.2 brakes.

One of the h2 cars that runs with us runs the 245 up front and a smaller tire un the rear. No way I would want to run the 205 way to small what are the dimension of the 245/16 tire versus the 235/45/17

I know that the 235/45/17 wheel/tire setup fits on the ek

225 is minimum you should run, but I'd try and go with the 245's. Since its for H2 you should have enough power/gearing options to make them work. I tested 245's all around on my H4 car, but didn't spend enough time to maximize the setup. Anyways, for H4 weight and power, 225's were all that was needed.

I'm leaning towards the 225/50 but I'm now curious how the 245/45 would fit on a 7in wide wheel. Toyo does not "recommend" it per their website. Although the 245/45 is shorter coming in at 24.7 in height vs the 225/50's 24.9. The 235/45/17 on the other hand is 25.4 or the 235/40/17 is 24.4 in height.

Here is my reference for specs; http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-ra1 they give a "recommended" width also.

the 245/45 fit just fine on the 7" wheels for a guy around here. He won a lot of races with the car and those tires. They are a little pinched but in the testing he was faster and more consistent on the 245.45 tires vs the 225.

What motor is the EK running?

One thing the guy running 16" wheels found is that the tires are $50 to $60 per tire more expensive then the 15" tires. He was not happy when he figured that out (after he went the 16" route).

If the ek has the b18c5 or h22 i think the 245 would be a good option.

If it doesn't I'd sell the brakes and wheels and get something that works with 15" wheels.

Running jdm b18c. I don't mind the extra cost....for now. Was almost ready to pull the trigger on a set of 225/50's. Wow must reconsider lol. Bryan from ToyosOnly said he had a few HC'ers running the 245 as well. Hmm......
