Default Proper Adjustment of the Trans Throttle Control Cable?

M/Y Honda: 95 Ex, Vtec, AT, Abs, 4 Dr, 163K

Concerning the adjustment of the Trans Throttle Control Cable, it seems to "always" be synchronized regardless of the adjustment. Adjusting it shorter is always going to be synchronized with the Throttle Body opening. When I got this vehicle, the cable was adjusted so short that at full throttle there was no play in the Transmission Throttle Control Lever as mentioned in the Helms manual as needed for a correct adjustment, although Helms never mentions just how much play should be in the Throttle Control Lever. So, I lengthened it until I had the full range of play in the lever at full throttle and also had synchronization with the throttle body opening. What I noticed though, is that there was synchronization either way. So, is shorter or longer better. Helms mentions adjusting the cable up to 2mm shorter than the synchronized point. I wonder if it is best to just start over, or if it is just an exaggerated topic?
