You really just need a gear set for that kinda power. You can cuff the stock gears to help though

It's funny you're asking for advice when you're the one getting tons of passes with a stock tranny.... Alot of guys making 800+ can't even get off the dyno or make one pass with a stock trans.

If you have had that much luck on a stock gear set, I would heat treat your gears when you rebuild and replacee 5th gear with a cuff and see how that holds up for ya. Thats what I may end up doing since I dont have the $ for a dog box.

I had good success with the RacerStev treatment.

racer stev treated my gears, and all my 4th gear failures have been 2 treated, 1 non, NEW gears from honda. (im not blaming him at all. he has treated many sets for me as well as friends.) i have been using the same 1-2-3 and fd since 01 (knocks on wood)

got a used b16 4th gear for this time around, and trying some things in the oil. hit up the guys from dynamic performance. allan and rolondo. they are pretty good with helping on stock trannies.

its the heat & load that will let them break no treatment will help that.
it is what it is.

I think a lot has to do with what gear racerstev gets (new oem vs used 70k mile old) to treat I like his work alot had a fd done run it for one year street and strip at around 550 and it did fine. If you send him a set i thing the used ones do better. They have been heat cycled a few times and i think it helps.

All faceplating does is change the engagement type from synchronous to dog, doesn't improve the strength or durability of the gears.

If anyone is interested in trying our Wide Peening + Ti-Moly Impregnation treatment on their oem gears, let me know. We do this on all the road/race and touring car transmissions we build that need to stick to oem gears, and helps increase impact resistance and decrease friction/heat.
