Default Used motor question

Allright so I got a second opinion today on my car and voilą bAd head. Repairing a 170k mile motor doesn't seem worth it to me so I'm looking to buy a low mileage used one. I was wondering what site is a good reputable place to find one? I've found some for around 500 on everdrive but I was wondering what anyone here would recommend?
Thanks

Talk to some of the people here who have swapped their motors, and buy their old motor from them? I havent seen too many D series motors for sale... Then again, i havent really looked.

I'd take a look at www.car-part.com, search for one and sort by distance. That's how I found a Honda recycler about 20 minutes away from me. I'm sure other lots may have one as well. I know the base D16s would go for $3 - 500 a while back, I'm thinking the D17 might be cheaper since there isn't any enthusiast demand.

It's about $1500 for a super low mileage one, $1000 for decent low mileage one.

EXPENSIVE. Much more than $3-700 for a motor alone. Its about 10 times that amount... and the only motor you can drop is a K series... So if you wanna save your pennies, I would do it.

If you have to ask, the answer is Yes.

You're better off buying a direct replacement. I've seen D17's sell on average of $500 (+/- 100) with relatively low miles. (60-80k) The most expensive D17 that I've seen was $900 but that was because it only had a little over 30k miles on it. Craigslist is your best bet. Auto recyclers will charge top dollar, but you do run the risk of buying a bad motor from someone on craigslist in which case there is no return policy. Do a thorough inspection before you buy.

Yeah I found my D17 for 475 with Low miles on everdrive. It would be nice to go dohc but i have no experience with engine swapping. Plus my funds are only 2k I doubt I could go anywhere with that

I found some motors for 500. But Its non Vtec so m mechanic found one for me 800 bucks plus my old motor. I was really hoping to keep my old one but i've found slim pickings so I gotta do it. On the plus side it only has 60k miles. Is there anything else anyone would recommend replacing now that the motor will be out? it's already got a new timing belt and water pump and Ima go ahead and do the clutch as well but aside from that anything else?

you sure that $800 motor is any good? if they want your core, it sounds as if they're doing half-assed rebuilds to make working motors (ie. just swapping parts around to make them functional...no machining etc)

i'm surprised it's so hard to find cheap D17's. Generally, not many people need replacements because the D17 is pretty reliable. If i remember correctly, Honda also sold about 40,000 of them every month for 5 years. There should be tons of crashed civics w/ good motors.

They had to order it I'm pretty sure they got it for cheaper and are selling it for more but online i didn't really find much except 200 miles away in la and around the same price but with 120k miles. Idk how the motor is but my mechanic said he's been doing businfess with them for years and the motor comes with warranty as well
