I currently have the Michelin XGT v4... 195,55,15... Im looking for something that I can drive up to Lake Tahoe during summer.. Any advice would help..thanks again guys.

Another question also Nsxtasy is I only need the 2 front tires change, is it a bad idea to use 2 different brand of tires? Or Should I go head and swap out all 4?

 

In general, it's best to use all four of the same make and model tire. If you can't do that, then at a minimum you should use the same kind of tire - for example, four good all-seasons. Keeping the same brand doesn't matter if they're not the same model tire.

The tires you have on there are all-season tires (the stock ones that came on the car from the factory). As I mentioned in the topic in the Integra forum, all-seasons are designed primarily for those who have to use the same tires in snow and bitter cold as in moderate to warm temperature. I would not mix all-season tires on one end of the car with summer tires on the other end. If you really want better grip from your tires, and you never drive in winter conditions - it sounds like you don't - then your best bet is to get four new summer tires. One longer-lasting excellent-performing nicely-priced summer tire is the Yokohama S.drive; in 195/55-15, you can get them for $76 each with free shipping from Discount Tire Direct. After the current $40 rebate offer from Yokohama, four tires will cost you $264, which isn't a lot of money and it's a great deal. (You'll need to pay a local tire shop $10-20 per tire for mounting and balancing. Wal-Mart is one place that does this for a decent price and doesn't require you to buy the tires there.) I went through the same upgrade on my '94 GS-R after I used up the stock tires, and summer tires are just sooooo much better.

If you only want to buy two tires, you'll really need to buy two more all-seasons to go with the all-seasons you already have, and you'll be stuck with the lower grip of all-seasons that way. If you go that way, I would recommend either the Goodyear Eagle GT ($86/tire with free shipping from Discount Tire Direct) or the Kumho Ecsta ASX ($72/tire plus shipping from Tire Rack; shipping is usually around $15/tire). So it will cost you around $172 for two good all-season tires to go with your Michelins.

If it were my car, I'd get four new summer tires (and, specifically, the S.drive from Discount Tire Direct). In fact, that's exactly what I did.

 

My bad.... i mean during summer ill be going to tahoe here and there.. mostly driving through out the year.... i mean rain here in the bay area isnt bad..

 

All-season tires are not needed for rain. As long as the temperatures aren't bitter cold and there isn't snow or ice on the road, summer tires will grip better than all-season tires, even in rain.
