Default painting fog lights NOT THE LENS !

Hi I was looking at my fog lights and I wanted to paint them black.. I ve seen acouple of people with the plastic around the lens painted the same color of the car or something like that.

I wanted to kno what's the best way to paint them .. but I tryd to look for it on google and everything that came up was about tryn to paint the lens yellow .. so I was wondering if anyone knows how to paint the plastic around the lens or can give me a url to a theard that shows you how .. thanks

Plastic around the lense? I've had two sets of foglights, one Depo and one OEM, and both were metal.

These are the depos that I painted flat black. I also painted the lense cover flat black as well, but isn't shown. I used high temp black for the fog lights themselves, because it gets really hot. I hope they aren't plastic on yours..

Do you mean the foglight cover, blue in this picture? They are painted like any other body panel on a car. Word of warning though: they are on the front of your car so you have to worry about hitting things (i.e. rocks, bugs, frogs, small children). Mine that I painted black look as though they've been sandblasted.

They will end up chipping and looking like **** from stuff on the road hitting them and you will end up buying new plastics. Dont waste your time. It will only look cool for a short while.

That site calls those pieces "trim". I have always thought they were called housings.

you're both right that they'll get chipped up since they're on the front of the car, but no more than your bumper would. if you spray them right they'll be just as durable as the rest of the paint on your car.

make sure to use a wax and grease remover on the covers first. get them really clean, then wipe them down again. get a red scuff pad from an auto parts or autobody supply store. scuff them lightly until they haze out. you can't leave any shiny spots, but be careful not to dig down and leave deep gouges. spray a thin coat of plastic adhesion promoter if they're bare plastic, or just a regular sealer if they're not bare. spray your basecoat, then clear. it's easy.

obviously your best bet is to use real automotive paint, but if you have to use rattle can paint, at least follow the steps above and you'll end up with a good result.
