Default Is my transmission shot?

i have a 98 acura cl with 170k miles on it. the tranny was stuck in 1st gear, and so we did a fluid drain and the fluid smelt burnt. i put new fluid in it, and was driving like a dream for like 2 days, and then is shifting horribly, seems like it is slipping, and as soon as i let off the gas it downshifts.

What color was the fluid when you drained it? Sounds like the clutch packs burned up and you're looking at a rebuild.

Yeah i am looking at a rebuild in the future. I belive that the gates are cloged and some of the metal is shot. The color has always been a pink / light red.

the first time i drained it the fluid was dark brown. i just refilled it with fluid and it was driving fine, and then started shifting horribly. i drained that fluid and filled it back up, drove it around the block a few times, and drained and filled it again. then it was driving fine until the car warmed up pretty much...

one thing i noticed was that the auto tranny was pressurized. like i went to go check the fluid after it was shifting bad, and the dip stick comes out with a loud pop and a huge woosh of air. any thoughts?

If brown fluid came out of that thing, no amount of flushing will really help you in the long run. It is toast. When I fried the 700R4 in my Chevy it was the same thing.

The trannys are crap in these cars and even with a transmission cooler there is no difference. Hopefully a rebuild will be much better.
