Default Axle won't go in all the way?

I have just finished putting in a new left side axle seal. I followed the axle replacement tutorial and everything went fairly smooth. Now when I try to put the axle back into the transmission, I can get it almost all the way in but there is about an 1/8" gap between the axle and the transmission. I have tried taking the axle out and putting back in several times, and no matter what I have the 1/8" gap. Is there a trick to getting it in all the way?

Take a pic if you can. The first time I swapped my axles I *thought* they weren't in all the way since I could see a small gap but it is actually normal. Posted a pic here and had a good laugh over my noobness

If you can't pull the axle out by hand (easily anyway), it is in. Unless the c-clip is too flush...

If you didn't replace the c-clip on the end of the axle, then do that and try it. They say you should change those every time it comes out.

I put a new c-clip, and I'm currently making more attempts to get it to go.

make sure all your splines are lined up, I one time replaced that same seal, and couldn't get my axle all the way in for the life of me, then pulled it out for the last time and notice the splines were offset on the other side of the c-clip (ie. =[- ) (probably from my m@D 3Rd ge@r v-tech y0!) too much torque...

that looks normal to me. you might have to turn the transmission by hand then gently tap at it with a rubber mallet.
