Default Mugen N1 ECU

http://www.inlinefour.com/mugentyperecu.html

Has anyone of you ever heard of these ECU ?

Are these made for a stock B18 Type R ?
Or rather for modded enginge`s ?

What do they mean with "Racing use only" ?
Is this simply not legal for street-use or would I damage my engine when using it for my daily ?

Thanks a lot guys,
Olaf

dont waste your money, buy a hondata s300 and have $1,000 left in your pocket, and your car will run much better

Racing use only = offroad use only nonsense.

hi Olaf

i've a Mugen N1 at my Integra.

yes, it's for stock motors or motors with light modified bolt-ons (header, catback ...).

i think they mean "racing use only" because the Mugen N1 runs open-loop, speak it runs without lambda-control.

other differences to the original ECU:
- VTEC-crossover @ 4700rpm
- limiter @ 9100rpm
- ...

i use my only at track, on street from home to the racetrack i drive the original one.

Thanks for your input

Where is the difference between Mugen N1 and stock ECU besides different v-tec crossover and rev-limit ?

I recently bought one from a member on here. Car felt powerful, but no A/C so I took it out sold it and put back my spoon ECU.

For the hour I had it in the car, the car felt more powerful right before and after vtec for a few hundred rpm.

this is kind of a 2002 deal. now a days with programmable ecu's the spoon-mugen ecu's are more of a collectors item. when you figured a hondata s100 is only $200 and a chippable ecu $100-150 it doesn't take long to realize where the money is best spent. having a good tuner actually dyno tune and confirm it on the street is going to get your specific engine dialed better than any out of the box ecu.

the hondata s300 is a favorite suggestion on the forum but the majority of people don't need the data logging or boost function. beings it's like 3x the price i have no clue why so many people get it for NA builds

Hey,

you`re absolutly right. Usually there`s no sense in untuneable ecu`s....

But as I don`t have a tuner I really trust I rather stick to well known plug&play products

mmmm...you could be money ahead having a mail order tuner like pherable.net burn a mugen map onto an ecu and send it to you. if it's a stock b18c that engine has had so many people refine the maps that you could probably order a close one via mail

Dr.db,
I was kinda disappointed at first with the Spoon ECU since I sold my Power FC to get it. I have a JDM 96 R, it made the exact same power on the dyno as the stock ecu (177whp) with a 5whp dip when vtec came in earlier. But after my last engine blew due to a tuning error I just wanted plug and play management.
The spoon ecu has no speed cut, vtec at 5000-5100 rpm and a raised rev limit of 8900 rpm. For the first few days the gas mileage was horrible, but it got better after a while (I managed to get 390kms out of a tank of gas w/ mixed driving).
The throttle is very sensitive; the car responds quickly to throttle input.
I have mixed feelings about it, but I have a stock engine so I figure it isn't doing any harm so I just left it there.

So far the Mugen/Spoon Ecu isn`t too bad, but a real improvement neither...

And spending lots more for gas without a real plus in performance; no way!

Thanks everyone for charing your experience

I would say go with a pherable.net ecu.
I have been running one for the last 4 years with nothing but good things to say.

The Mugen / SPOON N1 ECU are for engines with the full setup!
like cams,header,catback and internals!

So it dosen't work very well with a stock engine.

the worst think of those ECUs is the open loop configuration!

Why?

I tested a SPOON N1 ECU @ my DC2! so I know what I'm talking about
with a stock B18c6 is it waste of money!
to day is my B18C6 modifade (Toda Header, Performer x IM ..etc) and i'm going to use a Neptune ECU with a SPOON N1 map! I will know it better in 2 weeks!
I report the Result!

but that's OK... you must not believe me
