Default need confirmation of ZC valve adjustment spec's

hey guys

need confirmation for the valve adjustment spec's on a '91 DOHC ZC; I have the figures from the UK CRX manual:

intake: 0.005 - 0.007 in.
exhaust: 0.006 - 0.007 in.

I just had the valves adjusted at the dealer, and now the car runs fine but VERY hot. Geez, it ran fine when I brought it in...

if i remember right intake valve are set at .007 and exhaust at .009 they may chatter a little but it'll carry good vacuume at idle and should take care of cooling prob

all the sites I have seen recommend using a .006 for intake and .007 for exhaust, see Jason's ZC for dummies down at the bottom of the page.

OK, I thought I knew engine basics, but I might be out of my league here;
If the valve clearances are set too tight, can this effect cooling? I think that
I have heard this somewhere, as well as it being stated in a reply to my
other posting. If so, do I just loosen them up a little????

I have confirmed from two other sources as well the previously mentioned
valve spec's, thanks all.

Yes, it can affect cooling, if you make to clearance too tight. If you do this, the intake valve will stay open longer, thus heating it by the combustion of the air / fuel mixture. This is a Bad Thing, and something to avoid. It can lead to dropped valves and damaged valve seats. I'd set the intake at .006 and the exhaust at .007. The dealer probably didn't adjust the valves right, or tightened them down too far looking to silence the clatter. A little bit of valve clatter is normal and shouldn't affect anything.

good call; I have noticed on all my Civics that there is a definite valve clatter. After getting
it back from the dealer, it seems a bit quiet. Serves me right for not doing it myself...

thanks everyone for the info
