Hi guys, I hope you guys can help me out.

I was driving 20 kms to meet up with someone and everything seemed to work fine. but when I shut the car off for 5 minutes and attempted the start the car up again, the car won't crank at all. The car did have enough power for the stereo. I waited another 10 minutes and had my friend over to jump start the car with a battery in another car and it cranked fine.

Do you guys think there's something wrong with the battery? I had the car sitting for 10mins, when we first hooked up the battery and it didn't crank, it still didn't do anything until the third time I cranked it that it started the motor.

 

How old is the battery? Have you recently replaced the starter by chance?

 

The battery is over 3 years old. I don't know because I bought the car with the battery.

The starter has been removed before to check for the tooths, but since then the starter never had a problem

 

Similar event happened to me. I pulled in to buy lunch and it took no longer than 10 minutes to get it. Went out to the car and tried to start it but with no sound from starter and dimmed lights/clock. Got the car jumped and drove to get a new battery. Fixed the problem.

I would clean and reinstall the battery ground cable first. I had the same peoblem on two cars and each time it was a loose bolt that fastens the ground cable to the shock tower.

While you're at it, I would clean the other two main grounding spots, particularly if you're in the north.
