Alright.. here is the scoop. 1989 STD Hatch. Did everything myself, except for the wiring, which was done by Rywire. Battery swapped to hatch area with 0 gauge wire for power and ground.

Heres the motor specs, Mechanically timed without plastic belt cover. Ran fine. Ran fine for months and months. Everything seemed good. cams lined up where they should be etc. TDC was checked via screw driver placed in plug hole in cyl. 1 and then rotated to TDC then backed off half a turn or whatever. Funny issue was that the dist, had to be advanced all the way for it to run with some *****.. dunno???? but it ran fine like this. never had an issue. Till now.. :-/

Okay, so last week im driving the car, and all of a sudden its losing power and misfiring give it more gas doesnt help, it loses more power an acts as if i shut the car off and its slowly dieing. Every electrical thing works and is on. Let off gas, and pump it slightly and it comes back alive, but not is backfiring and goin nuts. Then it happens, it f**kin dies. and shuts off. I try to start it and nothing, for over 30mins. I check for spark and NOTHING. I put siad plug wire back into plug well, and give it one last hoorah. Um WTF IT JUST STARTED!! It runs fine..! ????!!??!?

So ever since that day last week, the car randomly spits and misses soo bad i can even 1/4 throttle the damn thing with out it poppin and missin. As long as i keep the load high and bog it ever so slowly, it will stay alive , but pop and miss, but she will stay runnin. Then I try to free rev it, and it doesnt want to here and there and then it clears up and i will startt o be able to go again, then it will do this back an forth for a bit and bam, it will be friggin normal again for the rest of the day, a few hrs, till tomorrow , or for a few more days, and then it will act up again so randomly , you couldnt count on it even if you tried.

I replaced the disty cap, and the plugs have less then 3k on them, but i bought new ones along with new wires. I cleaned the IAC thoroughly and this didnt matter. I unplugged it and ran with a **** *** idle, still didnt matter. The only CEL i get is for an o2 sensor which has been on an off since day one. FML.. I think the dist is bad, but i dunno, doesn't really make any sense..

 

yeah it might be the dizzy after all. those things can be hectic, mine is throwin a egr lift sensor and i know it has to be the dizzy cause it acts kinda like yours then after it warms up its fine, but what do you mean by its been on and off by day one does this mean you took it out?

 

The cel has been on an off since the swap. it was only throwin the o2 code. nothin else. I suspect the coil to be the issue, but a new one is like 70$ :/. its either the coil or the square thingy ma bob that i cant remeber the name for now hahaha.. its been awhile since i looked this ish up.

 

yeah, im sure you can look around on craigslist or something and find a coil for like $30 i got a perfectly fine workin dizzy for 50 bucks, it just had to be cleaned

 

Replaced cap wires plugs an coil.. ran smooth...... for like 3hrs. took everything apart again, cleaned the inside of the disty. put back old coil. strated right up. replaced new wires with old runs fine. just did 117mph in 4th gear. seems fine for now.. HA! FML! wtf i hate this crap!
