Default D16Z6

So before i begin, i have read numerous forums about engine swaps in EM2's about how basically were only limited to K series or just boosting. However is it legitmately possibly to swap a D17A1 with a D16Z6. I know that whole "its an older year that than the car" amd I'm really not concerned with that, because frankly where i live they could give two rips. Im aware that you would have to swap OBD2 to OBD1 Ecu, but I'm not sure on mounts. Every garage here has told me its possible if you find compatible parts. I'd like to hear some opinions.
Thanks.

Anythings possible with the right amount of money. But the amount of money your going to spend to swap it you could have swapped a K. It's not worth it to try to swap to an older motor.

Well the only reason i ask is because I've got a friend that could sell me all the parts in addition to the motor. I would LOVE a K-series but the way i see it, is that if you buy a K20a2 and install it, give or take $4k then installing the 5 lug conversion and 5 lug wheels, your just trying to make it like an RSX type-s when you could just sell the civic and buy an RSX for cheaper than swapping and have everything stock already set for you. He estimated me at like $1500-$2000 for the swap. But then again this guy is a gear head and has just about every integra, civic, and crx part sitting in his back yard. haha

Well you don't have to do a 5 lug swap to swap a k you can stay at 4 and if you did a k24 swap I have seen those motors go for cheep plus you could swap that head with a k20a2 on a k24 and pull out some nice torque numbers. K swaps are getting cheaper by the day.

with that being said

It's your car and your money you can do anything you want with the right knowledge, tools, and parts. How ever be for warned if you go the d-series route your gonna have to do a lot of fabrication there is no aftermarket support for this kind of swap. Plus our ignition systems are way different you will have to hack up the original wiring harness and make your own hybrid. D17's run a coil type ignition were D16 and lower run a distributor type plus not to mention the other things like make mounts and building a fuel set up.

Also your swapping in a 90whp motor so lets say you do end up swapping it in for around 2000 grand I would say that is highly unlikely unless your getting the hook up on parts and labor. Your not just gonna want 90 whp so lets say you would want a turbo build and for that to be reliable you want to build the motor.

Ok so fj distributor's has a d-seres build kit for around 600 bucks
Now you need a turbo and depending on what you want power wise and it its a nice turbo it would any were from 500 up being generous .
Your also going to need to upgrade your fuel pump and injectors, and your clutch,
you need bov, and possible a waste gate, engine management, ect... ect...

By now your way over 3k in just parts and your never gonna get that back when you try to sell your car.

I have seen k24 long blocks go for 2500. It's just not worth the trouble or the money.

If your wanting to make power with a single cam sell your em2 and buy an older gen civc there dirt cheap 3 grand for the civic slap a nice turbo kit on it maybe even build the motor bam 300hp + and you get the reliability because that motor is suppose to be in that car.

there's no point in get a k either you can get a rsx for the same price you wasted putting in our cars and it the same thing, but if have money, time and knowledge then more power to you i've see a h22 in our civic

If you are in the US its not wise since it is illegal to have a engine older than your car.
