Default A/C expects need help..

Well I just bought a 90 EF Sedan Dx that has 102k miles on it. Everything works great execpt for the a/c. I turn it on and nothing. You know when you hit the a/c switch you hear a click inside the engine and you can feel the a/c running. Well, nothing is happening so I don't know where to shoot for the problem. Maybe the compression is bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

well usually when your low on freon the compressor will not kick on. The first thing i would do is bring it to someone u kno or a mechanic that has the proper high and low gauges and some r134. To save yourself some money, go ahead and buy a r12-r134 kit and a new dryer from your local auto part store. Bring that with you to your friend or mechanic and have them vacuum out the r12, change/install the new drier, then run new oil and freon (r134) back into the system. That should put cold ac back into your system. If still nothing, then I would look into a new compressor. So even if you went ahead and bought a new compressor, your would still have to go through the procedure that I have input above. So i would go ahead and try that first before having to change the compressor.

I know r12 is bad for the ozone and all. But couldn't I just find some r12 and buy it off ebay and shoot that in there instead of the r134. Reason being from what people told me is that r12 is alot colder than r134. Is it worth it to find some r12? Thanks for the input.
