Hey I got a 03 rsx and I need to do CHP inspection. I had to buy a rear bumper cover for the rsx so I got it from a dude off craigslist that put on a body kit on his rsx. But I never got a receipt or any paper saying were I got the bumper. Now the CHP will need a receipt and somehow they have a way of knowing what was missing on the car. I dont have the phone number of the guy were I got the bumper to get a receipt.
My question is how can I make sure to pass CHP so they dont take my bumper?
Either (A) they will somehow see that the bumper is not stolen or (B) go to the junk yard people that deal with rsx's and them write me receipt saying that I "bought the bumper from them".
BTW the car is painted and you cant tell that the bumper was different color or bought separately.

Any input or info on CHP inspection's will be appreciated!!!!!

 

Do body parts like bumpers have identifying markings like vin numbers stamped on them? If they don't then I don't see why they would think your bumper was stolen. Even if they did wouldn't it be stamped on the inside of the bumper? I doubt they'd go to the trouble of having to remove it to check.

 

I even called the acura dealer and they said that the rsx rear cover has no vin #. oh dude the california cops will waste their whole day if they think that you have one part stolen. its crazy but hoping for the best.

 

I live in California and while I've never gone through CHP inspection I do know how tight they are on stolen parts and I know how they deal with it (impound the car and crush it)

Out of curiosity how long ago did you get the bumper replaced? If the CL ad is still up you could screenshot it and say i got it from this guy. Also why would you think that during the inspection they'll notice the bumper isn't the original and instantly start asking questions about it? You said it yourself its already painted and doesn't look like it's not the original.

 

like 1.5 months ago I got it and its all painted. If they realize that I bought a bumper for it and ask for receipt, they I will be like "oh my bad I forgot to get it" and go to the junkyard guys to help me out. We'll see

 

Why can't you just tell them the bumper was already on when you bought the car? well, if you bought it used, that is... I don't think the inspection will be as strict as you think it'd be... We don't live in CA where cops hate our whips.
